Nice! Can't wait to get my hands on a 3 ft also.
May I know what plant is that on the right background?

nice scape![]()
Oh... Can't tell if you didn't say and after looking closer then can tell. I think those on the right will not grow high enough to cover the overflow. You should replace it with Java fern if you want to cover the overflow. Again you are really good with these low demand plants. They looks great in your tank.

Hi Jeff, point taken but i don't have plans to cover or camo the box up in the immediate future. Based on past experience, if there is too much foilage around the overflow box, the dirt will settle on the plants rather easily, making them appear dirty. the bare overflow box doesn't distract me from the scape much.
Besides the main 3ft tank, there is actually another mini planted tank "lurking in the shadows" of the main tank and is also what trigger me to do a scape with the low light plants.
Tank dimensions: 35cm x 20cm x 24cm (LxBxH)
Lighting: 1 x Philips compact FL (screw on type) daylight 8W x 8hrs daily (indirect)
Substrate: GEX red pack 2L
Filter: 1 x small Hang-on-back filter (~60l/h)
Plants: Mainly Nanas, Xmas moss and a mishmash collection of unidentified plants
Fauna: 8 x amber tetra, 5 cherry shrimps
No CO2 and fertilizers. Temp: ~29°C
Irregular water change. Feed once a day.
Pics taken using HP. Again pardon the quality.
The earlier sump tank has been sold and redesigned another sump with smaller footprint to enable more storage space.

Your mini tank is as nice as the main one. And crystal clear water too.
With that light below the cabinet, 29 degree C is with or without ventilation fan for the cabinet?

The overflow + sump combination is not conducive for plants, have been grappling with CO2 distribution in the tank for a long while. Plant growth is less than ideal despite many adaptaions. Just before CNY, decided to change the tank to normal 3 ft glass tank + external filter to make it easier for me to grow plants.
Here's shots of the newly setup tank.
Previous occupants of the tank includes 5 x Altum, which had grown too big to be in harmony with other occupants. Shrimps like these are are their snacks.

your setup is really nice...
Actually all newly setup scapes are nice to look at, but after 1-2 months everything start to go hey-wire. It does takes more effort in setting up a 3ft but in terms of routine maintenance, their difference is not very far apart. I do hope this current tank is easier to maintain as compared to my previous tank combo.
