I mean the glass which is above the tank. Instead using glass or light plastic, is it possible to use some kind of net? I have one 16 ga tank which I wish to put on, but the covering glass is missing. They weren't with the tank when I got it.

I was thinking about stainless minknet.

    What do you think?

yes. you can use a stainless steel mesh.
also check out those plastic louvre used to reduce glare from lighting fixtures.
look here for an example of the louvre.
