IMHO they may grow if there is good sunlight but on the other hand algae will also bloom because you cannot control the amount of sunlight.
hello , i would like to know if i can grow hairgrass in my 6inchx6inchx15inch low tech tank , no filter , co2 , nothing , only light from the sun . i have seen ppl grow hairgrass in low tech tanks but some others have problems with them when they are in hightech. i am using ada soil and plants are HC and hairgrass . this is just the planning of the tank , the tank will be ready shorty
hope u can help me out thanks

Japanese hairgrass grown in a 1 ft cube tank. Low tech, with ADA II soil and indirect sunlight. So far no issues with algae.
I see many bottles at the side of the tank. can I know what are they ?
One is an empty bottle, the other is a bottle of excel which I dose everytime I change water, which is every 2 to 3 weeks. There is probably a bottle of anti chlorine there somewhere.
no wonder you have no algae. cos u dose excel, which kills most algae. now we know excel wont affect your hairgrass. Riccia will be affected by excel.
Yes and no, excel is not an algae killer. Too much light and algae will still form.
Just wondering, do anyone try with submerge tactics on Jap Hairgass before?
Of course there have been.
ops!!! sorry.
Mistaken my language.

Will it be easier?

That's how I started the tank above.
nope , the tank is still in process of building , the tank spec is 15inch(L)x6inch(B)x6inch(H) , normal glass and 6mm thickness, i will probably use HC for foreground and abit of hairgrass for the rocks and DW , wat is the different between jap dwarf hairgrass and hairgrass?
HC for foreground? i have many doubts about how nice they will grow.
I am having a 1 feet tank in a slightly shaded area outside my home void deck as testing ground.
Using APP (foreground) and Japonica (background), noticed the APP is growing slow & steady.
Anyone keeping HC without chiller and low light might want to give his/her input.
