    Re: Hailea Chiller

Just bought a HC-500A last Saturday & manage to setup yesterday. I noticed that this chiller kick-in every few mins even though i set the desire temperature at 28 deg only.

Is it suppose to work in this way?

Any way to reduce the frequent kick-in?

what is your pump flowrate that power the chiller?

You mean the external filter flowrate?

The filter flowrate is around 1000 lit per hour & my tank size is 4 ft with about 330 litres of water.

The spec require at least 1200l/h to 3000l/h, by the way you also need to consider the 30% flow rate reduction due to filter media. That would be around 1800l/h

    Is this planted tank?

yup, it is a planted tank but not much plant at the moment. So, that means it's due to slower flowrate & causing the frequent kick-in? Thanks.

    Re: Hailea Chiller

yes that normally happen if the flow is to low.

What happen is the temperature inside the heat exchange chamber cooling faster than the water flow can replace it. Thus the sensor think that the target temperature already reach but the actual fact is it isn't. You can either increase the flow or modify it using external sensor.

I would go for the 1st option, since in my opinion 1000l.h for 4ft tank is way to low. I'm using 1000l/h filter + 900l/h wave maker for my 3ft.

    Re: Hailea Chiller

Just to clarify that my definition of "kick-in" is the chiller start to chill every few mins. I hope we have the common understanding.

I thought when it always chill the water it means the water in the chiller chamber is higher than the preset desire temperature? Or the sensor in the chiller is over-sensitive and need to adjust the time interval to start chilling?

    Re: Hailea Chiller

yes, I believe we have common understanding. you chiller compressor is ON for a while then off then ON again for a while....etc. Normally chiller compressor will on say 15 minutes then off for 1 hour then ON again for 15 minutes (the number 15 minutes and 1 hours is just for example)

Initially water in the camber will be warmer than the set temperature but due to slow flow the chiller is chilling water faster than the water flow can replace. Thus the sensor think that the target temperature already reach but the actual fact is it isn't. There also possibility that the water around the coil frozen.

    Re: Hailea Chiller

Aren't Hailea's and Resun's temp probe located in the water tank of the chiller instead of the inlet of the inflow pipe? Hence, they always kick in more frequently than other brands that place their temp probes in the immediate inflow area. I guess frequent kick-ins is something we'd have to expect from Hailea and Resun. But as mentioned, a higher flow-rated pump can help alleviate the problem.
