bro sad to hear your loss..
been there before as well:/
even the commando shrimps died off?

Sigh hi guys,
Sad to say my Crs tank has come to its end. Had quite a good batch of them too. Quite a few were gotten from a few of the bros here.
Disaster struck when i had to leave for an overseas job. When i came back almost 3 weeks later less than half of my shrimps were left. And my tank had to garden of eden (if i dare claim it to be) to a landscape resembling a scene from a post nuclear movie scene. You know dying/dead plants discolored everything........
I left my tank in the hand of my folks but well i guess they did something wrong. Tried to remedy it but to no avail. All was lost and now my tank houses Tetras... Sigh.
Oh for got to mention it was a Hino, mousura, and mostly SSS grade tank. Ah and one crown head!!! Heh..
You guys can imagine the heart pain when you see your shrimps slowly lessening. Actually it got to the point where i had a bet with myself as to seeing how many shrimps survived to the next day.
Advise to anyone with a shrimp who's leaving overseas - do make sure and doubly and 'triple-ly' sure that before you leave you get and brief someone on how to maintain your tank properly.

Sad to hear that. Can always restart again!
If I were you, I will only ask my folks to feed them once every 2 days provided the water evaporation was not too much. Never assume that they can or could handle them.
Just my 2 cents.![]()

Hmmm.. I have left home for a week actually without much special care to the tank. I only asked my mum to feed once every 3 days, and i prepared the water for top up in a 1.5l pepsi bottle.. Nothing much to worry about though.. Only to make sure that the chiller doesn't go off or spoilt..

guess you are going to be starting again

My boss nuked my SSS CRS tank in the office with the mosquito fogging 1 year ago. All turned up side down.![]()

Oh dear.. Precious lives and money flying to the sky~ >.<![]()

Ya the commando also gone. K.I.A. Not so much the money i felt pain, of course the thoughts - ' oh there goes another 75 bucks everytime you see three or more shrimp 'sleeping'' but more pain when you have berried shrimp and put in so much to get the tank looking good.
As for now keeping small fishes namely tetras and also cherries. Haha.. Currently replanting the tank as i write this taking a break. Hand and eyes pain already.![]()
Next time calculate the damage cost and factor into the allowance of your overseas trip. So that when you return and see the damage already done, you can use the "allowance" to rebuilt your shrimp nation again. The lesser the plants, the less hassle for you to go overseas because when the plants thrive or die, the unattended water will be affected too and may not be good for the shrimps. Just two simple suggestions.![]()

My condolence...
Mine too when i tested out a spare chiller for a week and then put back my old chiller to use with the previous tank water still in it (1week old).
Never would i imagine the 1 week old tank water inside my chiller would be the culprit for the disaster of my tank. I am now restarting my tank but on and off still got few death rate. Sianz...
However just a week ago, i put in some activated charcoal in my canister filter and death rate seems to stop but in my tank only left few CRS already![]()
Maybe getting some more CRS from any bro who is selling cheap here to replenish my supply so i can understand your feeling best. Do take care.
Guys, if I may, use an external media reactor to house your activated charcoal. You could change the activated charcoal without disturbing the canister filter and the beneficial bacteria inside it.
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.
Don't walk behind me as I might not lead, don't walk in front of me as I might not follow. Walk beside me, as my friend.
