Hmmm.. I started my tank during Chinese New Year and they kinda like ran out of ADA soil.. I was told GEX & ADA was pretty much the same so i bought GEX instead.. Will it affect anything?
not much difference for planted tanks. for me the green packet GEX soil stays hard and don't crumble easily.

My experience, the nutrient contain in Gex soil run out very fast.
Hmmm.. I am not worried though coz my tank ain't heavily planted.. Juz that will anything affect the CRS that i am keeping?
I do see people use Amazonia ll dark brown and others Africana light brown. What's the diff? Which one will clear water faster?
Actually if you do it properly it should be clear since day one. What you need to do is to cover the expose part of your scape with paper/plastic, weight it with rock to keep it. Pour water slowly on the paper/plastic.
Damping the substrate with fine mist (using those spray bottles used for ironing clothes) before laying a weighted plastic sheet over it works best for me.
fine mist will prevent them from floating when fillingup the tank, it is recomended to do that.
