The white portion of my Atman impeller keeps coming off making the impeller come apart and causing a rattling sound when i do put it back together for use. Can i use the glue for gluing PVC pipes to stick it back together? I'm afraid it may still be toxic to the fishes even if i leave it for a few days to cure.

Hope people with such experience will be able to advice. Thanks

    Re: Repairing of Impeller

Recently i went to a DIY shop beside the LFS shop at chinatown to look for the glue for gluing PVC pipes (the orange colour container with japanese wording on it) to fix my impellor but the uncle there told me that i shouldn't use that cos it won't work. He recommended me to get Araldite. As he had alot of other brands of super bonding glues, i go and look at some of them but ended up getting even more confused on a suitable and safe for aquarium use brand.

Plse advice if any bros here ever use such glues to fix broken parts for their aquarium equipments especially impellors. Thanks.

    Re: Repairing of Impeller

PVC glue is commonly used in aquarium building, but I was under the impression they are safe only because they are usually used externally, ie, use for bonding pipes to couplings / joints, these areas have no actual contact with the aquarium water. You might want to check a little more.

Not sure how the Atman impeller looks like, picture would be great.

But based on your description, I will try silicon (aquarium safe), or super glue. Super glue has been used by some hobbyists here before, I think Shadow used Daiso superglue for his moss, so it should be safe, might want to check with him.

The white thing between the Rubber End Cap and the black portion came off. Also the white portion/ring between the propeller and the black portion also came off. The white "ring" is actually a shaft that goes through the black portion. I was thinking using super glue would be best cos silicon might spoil quite easily due to the heat in that area. The issue with using super glue is i don't know which brand is safe for aquarium use and also whether will the glue stick since the impeller is constantly in contact with water. Anyway thanks for the info.

Found the thread on use of superglue here

My mistake, it was blue33 who had used it in his tank, not Shadow.

    Re: Repairing of Impeller

Hi bossteck, Thanks for the link.

Just to share with fellow forumers my review of the Atman filter.... I bought 2 Atman 3337 cannister filter about 4yrs back for about $60 or $60plus each. Though the outflow has since slowed down by about 20%, i'm nevertheless still very satisfied with my purchase. The quality and performance of the filter far exceeded my expectations.... not that i had a very low expectation of it to begin with. So far i've from time to time "greased" all the O-rings with vasaline to try and prolong the lifespan of the O-ring and so far i've not had any problems with the O-rings. However the the STUPID impeller is REALLY CRAPY!! From the time i bought the filter until now, i've had to change the impeller about 6 times for both filters - meaning i've on average had to change about 1 impeller every yr for each filter and that is not including the 2 spoiled impellers i have running in my 2 filters now. It's ridiculars to know that the 6 impellers that i've changed could have gotten me a new Atman cannister filter and i would still have some leftover change. Having said that, i still think it's a very good value for money filter for people with budget constrains or as a backup or standby filter.

Any way hope to hear from more people who has experiences repairing their impellers especially eheim impellers which is extremely expensive.
