finally caught it out from my tank now.![]()
The eggs are laid into plant material and they hatch in Your tank then. Here in Germany they are endangered and protected so one has to bring them back into nature (on the other hand one mostly doesn't know where they come from and of course one may not set them out in another place) and may not kill them…

Most likely came as an egg or hiding already in nymph form with your plants. Fairly common, and I've even seen them in some of the plant holding tanks in LFS, very scary, and also the reason you should treat and / or quarantine plants before introducing them to your tanks.
They probably came with the plants. I caught them once when they already grew quite big and greeny. Those were the days I mysteriously lost some shrimps.![]()

It's a damselfly larvae. You can release it into a pond if there's one near your home.

I have the exact same thing in my tank. It has been feeding on my CRS. I am so freaked out by it... I estimate about 10-12 shrimps gone over the week. Only manage to find out why and caught it out today.
Damselfly nymph! Wonder how it got in. It was longer than 2cm when I found it today.

yikes 6 - 7 nymphs?? What were your shrimp losses like?![]()

shrimp loses at least 3-4 a day for about 2-3 weeks... last few days were about 5 a day... I always thought it was my water condition or the cpo... cause i didn't bother to test the water condition... I read this topic then decided to check if there was one inside... took out all my drift wood with moss and washed it... then in the pail I killed one then saw another 4... then one in the tank... wash the moss again and left the water for awhile then saw another 1 or 2 still left... now I'm dipping the driftwood with moss with water and monitoring my tank as there are still some plants inside... afraid there are more... damn... I murdered my shrimps with my negligence... hope those gross stuff will all be gone...
They eat shrimps actually, so if you see dead shrimp, it wasn't done in by the damselfly nymph.

Their appetite not so big anyways i only have one mini one inside... after removing the larvae much better saw only 1 dead shrimp so far... the good thing is the mini cpo eats the food I drop occassionally as well so I believe the death rate shall remain low. Though I don't measure, the water condition is good in my opinion. So can only just monitor from now.

Erm, If you see one, high chances that there are more in there.. They do eat shrimps.. But in my personal experience, they do not eat the whole shrimp, instead, they eat a little of it and attack the next one that comes along. I was told that the eggs might be stinged in plants and it could be more than a few and the eggs remain dormant for years.. So, better throw away the wood than to lose ur precious shrimps. Its like so hard to spot them as well.. And yeah, they like to camoflauge themselfs in moss.. Totally undetectable unless they climb out of nowhere like they did in the picture above..![]()

ya I spotted more after putting back the driftwoods... I just removed all of them planning not to put the driftwood back with the old moss anymore... if I want to put the wood back I'll just boil some water and wash it. Then put it back in. I now need to see if anymore is in the tank as I still have some other plants inside not easily removeable.

The eggs are implanted into the stems of plants and the larva hatch out when you bring it home. They are like trojan horses.

Yeah.. Better remove all ur vegetation and quarantine them.. Better not take any chances..
