Err.. Bro, won't recommend duckweed to you coz once u get them in your tank they are a nuisance.. They are almost impossible to get rid of, they might clog ur filter as well if you are using a hof.. Best is you get amazon frogbits. Safest and best plants to have. Just my two cents worth.. =)
Hyacinth, water lettuce all do the job fine, 80 cents a pack from most local fish shop.
Yes, duckweeds can become hard to control later on if you allow it to spread throughout the tank surface from the start. I got 2 (YES 2!) leaflets of them with no visible root when i bought some moss from LFS, within 1week they had multiplied into 6 leaves and all starting to root. Since they are very small in size, they can be hard to remove entirely if tank is infested. I have frogbits and they are bigger and thus more manageable. And you don't need much to cover the tank with it. One thing to note is the roots can grow to great lengths and might need occasional trimmings. =)
