Something wrong with water these days

could you guys update your replies and include eg: what kind of fish are you primarily keeping.

eg: apistos, cories, tetras, plecos, gars, piranhas, bettas, rasboras etc

I would like to know whether its a fish sensitivity issue..

Location: Woodlands

Fish Types:
loaches, cardinal, black tetras, neon tetras, babas, algae eaters, otos, sling eel, yamatoes, grass shrimps, buddies, flying tails, hunchback goldfish, luohans, guppies, 2 unidentified fish..yet.

Hope this helps, no casualties so far, PH is at 7.0 to 7.4, KH at abt 2, rest of the elements not tested.

I'm keeping Neon tetras, otos and Malayan shrimps.

Guess what? I tested water without aging based on 10 to 20% water change on a 2 ft. 3 casaulties. abt $16.50 worth of fish.

The 1.5ft was tested with abt 50% water change of aged 3 days water, no casaulties at all. [:]

My conclusion is: Always use Aged water of minimum 2 days.

you cannot age chloraminated water..(you can age chlorinated water)
chloramine needs 1 week constant agitation to break down into chlorine and ammonia (chlorine escapes) but ammonia remains

maybe 50% is too much for the fishes???

dun trust anti chorline... i using GEO liquid for planted tank and tropical fish.... very good for water change.

Anti-chlorine is simple chlorine removal.

Geoliquid = "who knows what's that"

I'll put my bet on anti-chlorine.

Oh, you were wondering what water I aged?

Its abt small regular pail, filled with tap water up to 90%. Caps on. Some 5 to 10ml of Nutrafin Aqua Plus(Water Conditioner), 2-5ml of FE solution, abt 5ml of Seachem Nitrate Flourish. A dash of White Spot solution and Two dashes Tetra Aqua of Black Water. KH is bring up by either adding a small spoon of Kings Bicarbonate of SODA or Aqumedi KH UP(this is stronger). Some 5 ml of Trace Element Solution was also added.

Then the water is left over 2 days before change is made. For normal days where water level goes down, either refigerated water is added or ICE Cubes are added. Basically these were boiled water.

Thats it, this is my aged water.

walao! aging water is such a tedious process man! after reading thru all.... wat impresses me very much are that u guys are really really fanatics. heehee!
tot i was crazy about fishes and plants but it turn out to be...i was nothing compare to u guys... hahaha..

and also must mention about e water 1st-4th floor came from main, above came from tank. (mention by simon)
it is really something alot of people dont know i think....huh???

I think anti-chlorine will remove the chlorine part of the chloramine leaving behind amonia, while anti-chloramin will take care of both chlorine and the amonia too.

[:] lets see, according to Aqua Plus instructions, it will remove both chlorine and chloramine, neutralises heavy metals. If things get too cloudy, then I will apply Up Brand Crystal Clear which clears water in an aquarium or outdoor pond.

I used to have no problem changing water (50%)monthly. But there was one time where i drop in some anti-chlorine and after a day,one by one, fishes came up to the surface gasping for air.

Change the water again and did not put in the anti-chlorine and it is ok. But by then almost 30 cardinal and other tetras died.

I checked the anti-chlorine and notice a fowl smell. It could be expired, but i only bought it less than a month ago.

After this experience , i do not add in any anti-chlorine and the fishes are happy.

Mine has a nasty smell too but its very chemical smelling and has been like that since I opened it. I'd bottle used for a short while but has left it sitting unused for a about a year before starting to use it again recently. No fish deaths or other unusual results.

oops.. foul smell, yes , it stinks ,like dead fish in a glass of water for many days. It's definity not chemical smell.

The anti-choline bottle have a wide opening surface cover(roughly 1 inch) and is square in shape.(hope i explain it clearly)
