Is it ok for filter inlet at tank to be hidden behind plants?

Hi,

I just changed some of my plants in the tank. Am using Eheim 2224 and just changed to ANS surface cleaner type of intake. Noticed now that I have planted the plants, the intake is now actually hidden behind some plants. Though there is some space (about an inch) around the plants, I noticed that there is no real impact on the water flow.

Is it ok or should I make sure that the intake is not blocked at all ie visibly with line-of-sight?

The only bad thing about having the inlet behind plants is that dead fishes/shrimps may just stick there for days without you noticing.
Also, its hard to see how dirty the sponge filter on it is (assuming you use a sponge there).

If you can, just raise it higher abit. There's no reason why the inlet have to sit on the bottom...

No I did not install a sponge filter at the inlet. The inlet actually sit around 2 inchs above the sand but it is hidden behind some small leaves plants.

i was doing that before i bought a surface skimmer, it depends strongly on the flowrate of your canister. if you do see the small leaves getting stuck, simply adjust flowrate.

I have mine in the exact same spot, with a sponge prefilter. The ONLY hassle I have is that on the occasion I change the sponge filter it will pull up the local plants if it hits them.

Other than that issue I would say you are fine.
