nice! but whats the purpose of the duck and boat? hahah
Saw a neighbouring LFS's tanks of shrimp and was inspired to set one up in my office!
Used:
1 footer fish bowl (used to be for my betta but she died)
1 bag soil (forgot which brand, bought from C32
White sand (from C32
1 Dive Clean submersible power filter
1 Ikea Desk lamp
1 Philips 24W Daylight CFL bulb
Population:
4 red cherry shrimp
3 fishies (not sure what they are)
3 sea snails (Sheldon, Shelley and Shelby)
1 boat (the Alison)
1 rubber duck (Jill)
3 sea grass? (not sure what they're called either)
1 big "bush"
The leaves of the bush were going black so added 2 CO tablets, now they're flourishing and bubbling!
There's a moss ball at the back but they've been obscured by the bush! So now I need to 'trim my bush' haha!
Enjoy pics of my private little oasis!
That's Sheldon taking Shelby out for a drive! Shelby's a fast snail!
Hope you like my 'bowl'!![]()

kekeke no idea myself. I like toys, especially toys that float on water. The boat was a free toy from a kinder surprise egg that my colleague bought for me.
Now I dream of having my own boat some day!
The duck, not so muchUsed to have 2 complete with a tiny bathtub but my hamster ate Jack, so now Jill lives on alone.
Thinking to add some more shrimp tomorrow, clean up that green algae a bit! And maybe a baby sucker!
WOAH that is an wonderful tank , love it , 5star
btw that tv is cool , i have one too but yours is must more older , sorry OT
Hee thank you, it looks like a little crystal ball sitting on my desk. I love it too!
BTW that TV is so old, it has no AV-in for connecting a video player! It was actually abandoned outside my office corridor but I 'stole' it and rehabilitated it with an indoor tv tuner! I love these old things, the build quality is amazing. It has to be 20 years old at least and has a/c water drip into it (with smoke and loss of green and red colours) but always recovered!
Interesting setup! Classic TV you have there!![]()
the snails does not eat the plant??
That's a very nice fish bowl!
By the way, Sheldon seems to be 'riding' shelby.
Suckerfish no eat poo poo.
Ummm... weird question, but why is this considered a Vivarium?
And also, won't the lamp heat up the water? Looks very close to the water surface in the first pic.
Nice planted bowl tank and the TV too. As a matter of fact, I think that TV has steal most of the attention here. haha..
Oops, Skechid, you're right, this is in the wrong place ... how to move a thread? Also you can't see it in this pic but there's an a/c blowing directly at the bowl
Bryan, someone else suggested to me that Sheldon may be making love to Shelby ...
vivaboy76, haven't noticed the plants getting eaten by the snail so far.
Cardinals_Pride, yea... well, as long as peeps are commenting ... :P
Update: I added a Golden Chinese Algae Eater yesterday and most of the algae on the glass wall is now gone.
hi there, PM a mod and request for a move.
Their nice fellas.
PS, don't ever let the substrate mix, i did and i regret why i ever did that during adding of new plants.

How you make the water so clear and clean?
looks great. nice setup![]()
felix_fx2: noted! What happens when u mix the substrate? In the early days, when I was tankscaping whenever I shifted the substrate the tank gets murky but the filter clears out the water overnight.
dew: I use a submersible power filter, cost: 15$. But maybe the optical quality of the fish bowl glass also helps make it look clear?
rfary: thanks!
UPDATE:
My four remaining shrimp I've named Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Eminem. The 3 fish are Harry, Larry and Moe.
Chinese Golden Algae Eater is now known as Hootie and I've named the pump Blowfish because they both keep the tank clean![]()
trebuchet,: answer is simple, your top layer will look unclean. shifting is fine filter should take care of murky waters. I noticed there are some soil on the sand that's why i commented.
P.S: Kudos to Hootie & the blowfish, they only wanna be with you.

felix_fx2, it was originally pure white sand, but the arrival of hootie changed all that, he's been rooting around all the surfaces and digging up the substrate.
When I get tired of how it looks now I will just add another layer of sand and let the blowfish take care of the fine particles![]()
Nice setup. You have just planted an evil seed in me.
Actually, I am more interested in the television set in the background. Haha. How old is that set? Have not seen such a tv in SG.
a9316: haha thanks, here's another pic of my setup!
Fortessimo: I really have no idea how old that TV is. It was found abandoned outside my office corridor. It's actually a Philips. Good stuff!
