I was window shopping for plants as i intend to kick start a planted tank. I came across a plant that caught my eyes. It has a carpetted effect. When i checked with one of the staff i was told it is called seaweed.

I am a little puzzled as inspite of following all the posts and some related websites there have been no mention of this plant. Can someone enlighten me as to, whether there is such a plant and if it can survive in a low tech environemt.

Just seaweed alone will most definitely show you the former.

Google Search with just Seaweed - Link

Subwassertang will survive in low tech tanks, they are not very demanding.

But...they require cooler water. If your water temp is higher than 27C - 28C they will very rapidly melt on you.

    Re: Seaweed for newbees?

Yeah in most parts of Singapore you should be able to maintain 26C - 27C by evaporative cooling using an aquarium fan.

Topping up smaller tanks (2ft and under) is no big deal, but tanks larger than that really need a chiller to maintain temps below 27C, the evaporation is killer.

Thanks Fuzzy. you were spot on. I was undecided about tank size. But since i am not prepared to invest in a Chiller 2' will be my choice.
