i would like to enquire if the use of undergravel filter on shrimp tanks is advisable? how well is it to maintain as i read that it frequently clogs up and is not so effective.. is the placement of a fine net/stocking over the plate better?

    Re: Undergravel filter

Hey...thanks for the thread...just a couple of questions...

    1. where do you get the green netting? I cant seem to find it...

    2. do i panel the whole bottom of the tank? [If i'm covering the whole tank with gravel? (I see some setups of other tanks and they don't seem to panel the whole thank..just a portion only..does it make a difference?

    3. is it advisable to add some media between the panel and the tanks to increase surface area for BB?

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Undergravel filter

    1. you can get those netting at florist or LFS like C328 or NA.

    2. i panel the whole floor because i got too many spare. haha. another reason is lesser chance for the UGP to get choke. and try to get bigger soil at the bottom ( on top of the UGP ). my case, i used wire mesh to filter out finer soil of ADA amazonia II. then i lay a layer of bigger ADA soil on top of the UGP.

    3. the soil itself is a media if you use the Under Gravel System.

    Re: Undergravel filter

Hey...thanks a million for answering my queries...i'm so going to partition my 2 feet tank and run it on a canister and UGF but without the overflow box of course..(too professional already...) By the way, do you know of anywhere to custom make glass near hougang area?

and 1 more noob question from me...is it feasible to modify your setup with the partition all the way to the bottom but with the sponge portion at the top back of the tank to ensure flow between 2 parts? (i.e. UGF and soil cover the whole bottom)
