Effect of potassium permaganate on plants.

hi does anyone know what are the effects of the above if it is dosed into the water to treat fish diseases?

It's effects are like bleach and hydrogen peroxide, it's a strong oxidizer. Somewhat less toxic.

Some folks have used it like Bleach for plant dips to kill BBA on their Anubias etc. Works well. You get purple fingers if you are not very careful.
I think at low dosages it'll likely do okay for the plants but some species may be sensitive.

Hi Mandz,

I hope you are not thinking of adding pp directly to your tank? You'll need to isolate the sick fish in a separate quarantine tank, dose the right amount of pp and keep the tank aerated during the period of treatnent.

Very good article.
I would caution general tank use with some species of fine needle plants etc. Like bleach, it can have adverse effects IME but it's less potent than bleach.

I'm not sure it's better than H2O2, H2O2 is certainly cheaper though and not ugly water color.

But all of these are potent chemicals that you cannot dump in and guess with.

It's very good a dip.
