    This is where I start.

I have verified most of it, the regulator part is not so true.
SSB now also carry taiwan made REgulator meant for aquarium, selling $140, daylight robber. Have not seen it, propably Tiren or UP or S.Y. model. SSB mentioned many people has follow this same lead and make same enquiry...maybe that is why they jack up the price.
Also after thorough research, realised that we only need flow regulator and we don't need a pressure regulator for this purpose. It also means we don' have to spend so much. Pressure regulator is one that step down the pressure, and output pressure can be selected by user by turning the knob. Flow regulator is on that step down the pressure to a factory prefix value, usually 20-30psi (sound like the one we are using? exactly!), then the output is attached with a fine control valve(not neccessary a needle valve, depends on the requirement.) to throttle the required flow rate.

Solenoid has drop to $51, not neccessary to go to Beaver Contromatic. Many other places sell also. But am still looking for a cheap alternative, that is why I ask MOK in another thread, FESTO sound right....However I think $51 for the whole solenoid is reasonable for Genuine German parts.

Cylinder is easy, I bought for $120 for 5litre, don't know where he get $85, SSB don't sell at that price. Pretty standard price out there, do you know cheaper source?

    As for needle valve
I don't think it is neccessary to get a precision type, anything that can control up till 1bubble per sec will do. The taiwanese made one will do, 10+ dollar? NA has it.

    As for thread type,
    Cylinder - CGA320
    Regulator in - 1/4' NPT
    Regulator out - 1/4 NPT'
Solenoid in - 1/8' or 1/4'NPT also avail.
Solenoid out - same as input
Fine control valve in - 1/8'NPT
Fine control valve out- 1/8 Barb connector

Thats all folks, If you have more infor, like where to get cheap reliable parts, please share.

Why I go through all this trouble???? Same reason for why people DIY for home PC.

Simple reason: custom made, know the source for all parts and can get replacement easily, more reliable parts and get guaranteed parts for all components. Won't overpay for cheap taiwnese part, feel shiok.

I once thought I'm the only crazy guy...for those guy who may be interest, please understand that this is not a cheap path.

    Got info, please share.

very good eric_kclee, thanks for sharing. About time people realised they shouldn't pay so much for what they think they're getting.
