If you have buy those co2 diffuser for CO2 container, then it will not bubble as its may have not have enough pressure. Try take out the diffuser and see whether the DIY CO2 works or not first. If it works, then it confirm that the CO2 diffuser is caused the problem.

you did not describe the diffuser that you are using.
that make it hard to help you.
anyway, does the diffuser have a white ceramic plate mounted on a 'bell'?
if so, diy co2 will not have enough pressure to force co2 through the pores.

If you don't mind losing some or you have good current flow, try an airstone.

i tried using airstone with diy co2 too. I will not bubble even my co2 is producing.

    not enough pressure.

    how about using an atomizer?

    will it work?

    thks

You will need more pressure for an atomiser compared to the airstone.

It is strange that you cannot get enough pressure to get the CO2 through the airstone. Check if there is a leak somewhere.

I feel flippers will work better for DIY CO2. Atomisers and ceramic diffusors will need more pressure. You may have enough pressure in the begining, but as the CO2 production taper off you might need to change the CO2 mixture earlier compared to using a device that require less pressure.

you shouldn't have a problem of using an air stone with diy co2.
most likely you have a leak somewhere.

those white plastic air stone are quite good as they can produce a fine stream of bubbles. however, the bubble size will vary over time due to difference in pressure and stuff deposited on the air stone.

i think mine is those $3 bucks atomiser. it bubbles without the atomiser though.

should i change to those $7 bucks small can CO2 which will give me more pressure?

    thnx.

You may want to try a normal airstone.

The CO2 will flow where there is least resistance. When there is no airstone attached, the CO2 will flow out of the tube rather than squeezing through the leak. When you attach the airstone, the CO2 will start to diffuse through the leak resulting in no CO2 going through the airstone.

DIY CO2 should do the job.

IMO, those CO2 cans are not economical in a long run.

    Hi,

Just to share, I have used the $3 diffuser as well as the inverted bell type with DIY CO2 before. Maybe you should note that it will probably take about a day or so before the CO2 production become steady and sufficient pressure is built up. Also, check that you have added enough yeast.

For me, I add 1 cup of sugar and 1/2 tsp of yeast into a 1.5l bottle filled up with water to about 5/6. Bubbling will begin in a day's time and will last for about 2-3 weeks.

    Cheers.

    hi illum,

so the atomiser will actually work with DIY CO2?

i tried to connect it to an air pump, nothing comes out, so it led me to the conclusion that it requires very high pressure to actually bubble. am i rite in saying so?

thnx for the replies. appreciate it. =)
