I am a football fan, and it is just right that the World Cup is a die-die must-watch football event, but now is down the cost of having it and watching it in your living room. Seriously, the cost that the telcos are charging is not that reasonable (not unreasonable) but there is a cost to everything, and if you want to see Torres, Rooney, Messi, Drogba in action on your TV, then you have to pay.

As a MioTV Sports subscriber, I thought there will be a discount for the world cup package, but it is not the case, so frankly, I am still waiting for my OC's approval to sign-up the package. Anyway, there are many alternatives to watch the matches, both legally and not-so-legally. You can watch it on the web through some Internet-TV sharing sites or get an satellite dish to receive the signals from our neighbour countries or go to the pub/restaurants even coffee shops and cheer together with the rest.

Seriously, you won't be able to watch all the matches, so just be selective and watch those heavyweight crashes. And don't forget that our Mediacorp is "kind" enough to show for free 4 matches: Opening game, 2 semi-final and the all-important Final. At least, you surely can watch 4 matches free on your LED/LCD/Plasma/CRT TV lying on your luxury sofa.

I haven't been chasing soccer matches since about 10 over years back. But I still do not understand what's the fun of sitting alone in the living room watching world cup? At least to me, I would very much prefer to watch in a pub or even coffee shop as the mood and atmosphere is totally different.
I fell asleep while watching the last world cup before even half time.......... but I will never forget the days we used to squeeze into National Stadium at 5pm and waited till 8pm before the Malaysia Cup kick off.
