    Hi Guys,

I've decided to replaced my "worn out" substrate with Flourite and would like to seek advices/comments from Flourite users out there before I made my final decision on getting one.

1)Does this Flourite disintegrate after some time like Aquasoil?

2)Besides the cloudiness during the initial usage is there other things I should be aware?

3)I know Flourite can be use by itself but will it do any harm if I add base fertiliser with it?

4)And lastly where can I get them and roughly how much does it cost?

    Thanks!!!

1)It does not disintergrate(I've had it for some 10 years or so.

    2) not really, rinse it 3 x in a bucket, don't try and get it 100% clean, it doesn't help. It will clear fast after.

    3) there's no need to add a base fertilzer to a substrate
I add this to bottom layer of flourite(bottom 2-3cm then cap with 4-8 cm). I add about a good handful of ground peat per sq ft and some mulm from an established tank, maybe a liter wet soupy. Mulm is the "dirt" that settles on the bottom of water change bucket after you have vacuumed the gravel in an established tank. Any dirtry old tank will do, doesn't have to be a planted tank.

This will jump start the substrate well. Fresh organic materials loaded with bacteria.

Adding base fert's will not hurt it, but you just don't need them.

4)Over in your area? I ain't got a clue, but I think it's pricey due to shipping from GA, USA to the other side of the world. Shipping is the main cost associated with the product. The product itself is dirt cheap.

I use it 100% so it doesn't mix etc or look tacky.

    Regards,
    Tom Barr

you can get it at petmart at SGD40 for a 7kg bag...

for 4ft tank, you probably need 7 bags. you can mix up to 50% gravel for to remain effective (lonestar/rmc pacific monterey sand..etc)

Alamak! I guess I have to make all my way to Serangoon from Tampines. Or is there any closer ones around? Don't mind paying slightly more than having to drag 14kg of gravel from Serangoon.Siong man....[]
