do a search in the equipment, you should find the answer there

in short, AC is noisy compared to DC fan. But with AC, achieving 26-27 degree during cooler days is possible

I have a 2ft tank with 2 X 15W FL. I am using a AC fan(if I am not wrong as the AC voltage is printed on the fan). I am able to achieve around 27.5 on a hot day like today.

Hello there, just bought a DC fan yesterday at Sim Lim Tower...
    Size: 5inch+
    Voltage: 12V (DC)
    Current: 0.48Amp
    Price: $10

used a 12V 500mAmp adapter and the fan can cool my tank from a high 31 - 32 degree C... to a low 28 - 29 degree C. But the water surface is agitated abit violently...

Hello there there is bad news and Good news:
Bad news! Just got my power bill... $119++ AHHHHHHHHHH! there was a gradual increase... last one was $109++, I understand as there include the last installment of the major screwup billing by SingPower (no Power bill for 6moths). this time no installment and yet so high! SingPower playing games?

Good news, my current fan is able to cool down the tank to a nice 27 degree region!

I place the fan position so that it is just about the tank centre support... If not the water agitation is too violent. Oh yah, need to top up 400ml every day to maintain water level!

    Specification of the fan:

    26 degrees is fine.

limsteel, dat is a delta fan u r using ... an industrial fan ... some use it for ultimate PC cooling ... be careful of this fan ... the blades can slice off some real skin if ur fingers are not careful

for cooling purposes, no need such a power fan lah ... noisy and elect bill goes up ... juz get a normal $3-$5 fan will do the job

Noise generating is OK... 12DCV & 0.48Amp less then 6watts should pose a hugh change in the Electrical Bill right.

I tried those platic PC cooler fan, manage only 30degree... and it seized in 2 month time. OK advice taken, will look for a lower current requirment fan...

    Thanks

I'm using 2x 12VDC/0.13A fans to bring down the temperature of my 2ft tank(2x36W lighting, non-airconditioned room) to 27C. Have been using them for 5mths to date.

Granted that it is not the prettiest setting but it works : My DIY Fans

6w running for 12 hours/day, in 1 month, your electricity bill will increase by > $0.40. it uses about 2.16kwh or 2.16 units.

if the fan is working fine, why change it?

Nidec make gd fans too. Have a 1.3A 80mm Delta FF fan @ home. Its one hella krazy fan, 80CFM @ 5500RPM and it sounds like a freaking air dryer.

To play safe, you can fix on a fan grill which is avliable from SLT. I sliced the tip of my finger with my delta black label before. The fan spins @ 7200rpm and it can really cut!
