Hi, I plan to upgrade my tryout tank to 4ft or even 5/6ft tank as I am turning serious now.

Can some SeeFu share his experience on Tank Selection?

    Mainly on Dimension,

    1. What Height - too high bad for light penetration, too low cannot grow tall plant

    2. What Length - certain length or custom length cannot easily find accessaries, like the FL light. Any problem with 5 or 6feet?

    3. What width - too narrow have less space for more plant, too wide will affect viewing clarity for farmost plant?

    4. What Glass Thickness for 4/5/6ft tank?

    5. Is there a wide range of grass grade? got super clear, super flat one? Which brand and where to order, more info please.

    5. Curved seamless tank or straight tank?

    6. Thank with hole at the bottom for water to overflow down to the bio-filter tank hidden below in the cabinet--- is this good vs the canister filter?

    7. Tank with Hood or without hood better.

I tends to prefer larger tank like 5/6ft, can some Seefu advice the pro and con for choosing 4ft vs 5/6ft?

These info cannot be easily found on internet, hope some Seefu will teach.
I guess this will benefits many turned serious newbies.
    Thanks first hoh.....

hihi, i'm nt some seefu here but just my own personal view.

    1. not to high maybe something less than 2ft or tall enough for both of your hands to reach. if it's too tall, aquascaping will be a problem to you.

    2. since you're going big, 5ft or 6ft, i would recommend you to use MH.

    3. maybe 1ft to 1.5ft width will be just good. it got to depend on what plants you are planting and how you aquascape it.

    4. Glass thickness, if possible - 8mm - 12mm.

    5. for this i'm not sure. but i heard of ppl using sapphire glass.

    6. straight tank will be nicer.

    7. i think canister will do a good job.

    8. without hood if you're using a MH.

    my 2 cents. []

Better go for 12mm, straight glass. Safer, according to a tank maker.

Personally, I have a 5'x2'x20" tank on a lowly 2' high cabinet. I quite like it as I don't need a chair to do maintenance. My hands can still reach the lower rear.
