hey guys, after taking a break from apisto, im back with my dream apisto.
1ft cube tank with IOS filteration.
using sudo bottom sand as this tank was meant for corys.. but scrap the idea since my temp is kinda high for cories.. didn't plan to get any apisto today but was at c328 and this bitaeniata pair caught my eye.. bought an apisto cave as well..
anyway, heres the pair.
the things i bought to add in hiding space.
i'll post a photo of the final set up when its done..

thanks, yes its a young pair.. the male has good finnage and yellowish colour.. female looks "female" enough to me.. black pelvic fins too.. thats why bought it straight away incase other people bought it.![]()
Nice. Welcome back to apistos bro.
chongyu
thanks bro, you still keeping apisto?
update.. fish has settled down..
this is the tank.. no scape, just simple java moss + a driftwood to create as much hiding space as possible.
as there were some cherry shrimps inside.. noticed the male ate one of them.
female already adopted the cave.

added 10 sparkling gouramis as dithers.. very nice addition indeed..
the female.. anyone can confirm if its a female? male inside cave as seen in background.
thats where this tank is.

finally the male is settled and no longer hiding.. flaring at female everytime she passes by the cave.. and male likes to chase those sparkling gouramis.
hope he don't stay with the cave for too long!
come out and hang around the cave..
female spotted!
flare!

bro,
May I know which substrate you using?
*****Apisto cacatouides, agassizii, bitaeniata, eremnopyge, Sp Wilheim, Panduro, Trifasciata, elizabethae, irinidae*****
What locality are they from?

bro, can advise where can we get the peat? how does it looks like and place it in our filter?

You can try various types of peat - there's the sera brand (which doesn't sink) and there's the JBL Tormec, which looks like goat droppings.
Both are equally good at bringing down pH. Or you can try using a thin layer of ADA Africana/Amazonia beneath the sudo sand.
Sudo sand serves to bring out the sand sifting behaviour of apistos - something you don't want to miss.
If you're refering to Sera super peat, it will sink but not instantly. Probably about 3 - 4 weeks time, it will sink.
Can buy a cotton mesh and put in peat and tie. Then place in filter or in tank.
Easier if you were to get ADA aquasoil.
God will make a way, where there seems to be no way
thinking of getting sand due to its constrast. all my present tanks are currently using ADA II as substrates and I find it a bit dull.
