Hi guys, I understand there are quite a number of you who got CO2 cylinders from SSB. Is it the rustproof kind? Is the regulator to be used different from the ones sold at LFS? I've used a DIY CO2 b4. Thinking of switching to cylinder. My tank is a 4x1.5x1.5. Want to keep price around $150-$200. I did ask one lfs about Dymax, but the lady mentioned that there were some complaints about it. But the cylinders at Lfs seems to be a bit on the expensive side. Hoping for assistance.

co2 cylinder comes with 2 flavours, steel or aluminium.
steel tank may rust overtime but can be kept rust-free by proper maintenance.
aluminium tank does not rust and is lighter compared to steel tank. however, aluminium tank could cost twice a much as a steel tank.
compare prices from a few lfs.

Darkkon, mine is like Eric's. Approximately 54cm high & width plus regulator is approx 19cm. They offering good price. I called SSB, they selling at the same price. But the location is quite inaccessible (damn ulu, at Senoko!)But NA offers the best package. Service also quite good altho the person at the counter seemed uninterested at my questions at first. Mr Chan very friendly too. But he referred me to this guy (ask for his name but he declined to give ... "Just call here, can already...&quot what the heck ... as long as I got my stuff!

PS : I have no share in tt company. Just stating the facts as a customer.

Suggest that you get a proper regulator. Not a manual regulator, it is not a regulator at all..output very irratic.

    No time to expelain...
Whatever you decide, just remember what I say, write back to prove or dis-prove my point.

if budget is a concern, you might wanna consider the changes

Tank - Normal glass 2ft from NA ~$18
    Lights - PL 2ft 2x36W from NA ~second hand around $60-$80
CO2 - 2l tank (can upgrade later; just need to topup diff)
    Filter - Eheim Ecco ~$80

that will save you almost $150 ... final decision is yours

Eric is absolutely correct. Everyday must adjust. Sometimes 2 bubbles, sometimes one bubbles, sometimes no bubbles. Some say leh, some say lah, but Eric very right! So what can I consider to correct this problemo, Eric? Darkkon can also share (before he buys the manual regulator)![:0]

    Ghost Water,

If you already have a 'Manual Regulator'(I call this throttle valve)... There isn't really any remedy to correct it.... Why?..Because there is no way to make a throttle valve to behave like a real regulator.

Look at the main on/off valve that comes with the CO2 tank. The so called 'manual regulator' is functioning exactly the same way as this valve.
Some people that I know also successfuly using the main valve to control the bubble rate instead of going for 'manual regulator'.

I am not recommending to use the main valve for bubble control. I am just saying that if you choose 'manual regulator', might as well use the main valve directly (can save $ further mah..).

No time to explain all the technical detail....me working now.... A quick tip in selecting a proper regulator.... go for one that comes with a solenoid.
reason: Solenoid definitely cannot work with high presure like 1000psi, if there is a solenoid, it also means that the set you bought has a proper pressure reducer...a proper regulator

I saw a pretty cheap one at $90 bucks. Another one at $150. Both at NA. Darkkon, maybe when U drop by there, U might wanna take a look.

Eric, will consider what U said. Thanks anyway. But solenoid is the way Have to save up tho.[]

Yap ... I would agree it's a pretty expensive hobby. First an ordinary tank, then planted tank, then marine tank ... the equipments are costly too ... but its passion, rite? Slowly but surely U'll get your tank.

you'll need tank, lights and filter. your tank cannot do without a filter. and you can diy co2 until you saved enough.
