you need heater for CRS tank in singapore???
just water for your new tank cycle finish. make sure the water parameter is similar and you are good to go.
I am currently running a 1.5ft tank and is going to 'upgrade' to a 2ft tank soon.
The 2ft tank is going to be brand new setup with new plants, landscaping and everything else.
What are the things I need to take note to ensure that the migration will not kill my CRS?? I currently have about 50 CRS.
My current setup is as follows:
1.5ft tank
Eden cannister filter
Small Hang-on filter
T5 light
Heater at 24 degrees C
New setup
2ft tank
Ehiem 2213 (Not purchased yet)
Heater (Not purchased yet)
T5 lighting (Not purchased yet)
CO2 tank with solenoid (Not purchased yet)
Thanks!

My tank is in my office.. and the office temperature can go down to about 20-21 deg C... I keep my tank temperature at around 24 deg for the plants to grow better... That's why I need a heater
how about at night? the office air con still on?

not on... but the heater has a cut-off... once it reaches the temperature... it will stay... but the office temperature will not exceed 26 deg even on weekends.. so should be fine...
Just wanna know what I need to do to ensure that the water parameters are somewhat the same between the tanks...
best to have the same type of soil use , same water source, same filter media. then your water quality will be more or less the same. most of all.. remember to cycle for more than 1 month before putting the shrimps in.

If possible migrate some of your old tank water to the new tank, to minimize changes.

Yes...We are in the same shoe....now cycling my tank for the 4th day.
This is what I do....
1)I transfer half of my old tank water into my new tank.
2)Top up with new water
3)Add in Oldsea Mud.
4)Add in a condition which I find it pretty good call EASY-LIFE(which remove chlorine and chloramines, heavy metals, ammonium, eliminates and prevent stress).
5)Add in Mosura Mineral Plus
6)Microbe-Lift XTreme(to help ages the water and detoxifies Nitrate)
7)Let it run for 2 days
Test the water condition
9)Put in some Frog bits
10)Let it run for 2 more days
11)Put in all my old tank MOSSes Driftwood.
12)Let it run for a couple of weeks
By the way...there is 2 Fire Red which I release as a commandos today...Seems like they are happily gazing on the Mosses Mountain I have in my tank. Overall,it seems like the Mosses in my tank really help maintain the shrimps in tank. They love crawling and picking on my shrimps. I used to keep basic Cherry Shrimps years back, recently 6 months ago started on CRS...till now no death rate. And 3 of my shrimps are berried.
This is how I do to my tank transfer....and will update you how my 2 commandos is doing....
Great!! Good to know there's someone out there who's in the same boat as me!
I'm definitely going to cycle the tank for a month for it to stablise.
Here's the list of things I'll definitely do.
1. Cycle tank for 1 month
2. Transfer some old tank water into new tank
3. After 1 month, put in the 'commandos' CRS or lower grade ones
4. Wait for 1-2 weeks and start transferring more if no fatality
Need loads of planning to scape my tank... Need to give that old tank a good wash too!
Yes...Lots of plants really keep the shrimps feel secure and comfortable in the tank...
All the best...and do keep us update on your new tank...
Cheers...![]()
Sorry to off topic.. But quick quesion.. What is frogbits and what does it does?
Frogbits is a floating plant....I also just learn that this plant take in nitrate in the water very well and that's why most shrimp keeper have Frogbits in the tank.
I never had any frogbits in my tank... Think I'll need to get some from another colleague then...![]()
alternative way, u can try to move some insteady of all. if shrimp can survive than continue to toward the 2ft tank.
best regards
Alternative, you can try moving some and try but will be kinda risky. Like what I told you...my commandos fire shrimps is still kicking and doing well in my new tank. Although, all those water condition test passed but I still prefer to cycle more.
You can't cycle only when you don't have a spare filter....
I'm definitely going to cycle the tank... with a new pump...
If I am going to introduce plants in there, should I start the CO2 when the tank is cycling?
