wah bro, infested by green hair algae, try a battlion of amano shrimps.
Look at these pictures please!
Are they normal process from growing HC submerse?
It keep forming these spider web/cotton type of thing? Then they will float away by the water current & get stuck to everything. Its subtrate is ADA Amozonia.
It is a new startup tank, originally using DSM but fail with lots of melting & fungus.
Then i replant all over & flooded for 3 weeks now.
I try siphoning & did water change a few time but problem still persist. Plus if i siphon too near to the plant, they will be suck out so didnt really siphon clean!~
There is no fish in the tank yet as its not cycle enough.
Are they cause by the HC melting or the soil? or what??? Please help up!
Tank Size: 120x60x45cm
Lights: T5 4x54w (7hours)
Substrate: ADA Power Sand x 1bag 6litre, middle layer ADA Africana(used) x appx.18L, ADA Amazonia2 x 9L, top with 3KG of Amzonia2 finer ones.

That is new tank syndrome, brown algae, do more frequent water change, add Otto fish, they will wipeout all, dont get too many.

Is it really Algae? I just bought 9 SAE & use them as commandos last night. Hope they help? Then again, if they live?
Also, i have a question? Planted tanks use lots of ferts with lots of copper. So, Amano shrimps can withstand meh?
Blue33, you mean don't get too many otto cause they might not survive right?
they may uproot the HC like SAE also. SAE dont really eat brown algae like Otto.

Hi I tried using malayan shrimps to battle algae on my small tank last time. They seem to prefer to eat algae rather than algae wafers!
Shrimps are scavengers, they choose the best food.

Ya i don't think my SAE's doing a good job yet! I will gather all my little ottos but is there any other way to stop this situation as its a really big tank for ottos?? Blackout>?
Otto is the best way to do it, you will see them working very hard on the brown algae, all become fat fat. New tank syndrome is like that.

Alright, i'll gather them from my shrimp tanks! How long you think it will take to control the situation? And i'm doing like 2 water change weekly is it ok?
It depends, sometime during this initial period, fauna may die also, due to unstable condition. Changing water is still one of the main thing you need to do. First 1-2mth is the crucial period. Try not to add any fauna except the cleaning crew, as everything in that tank still new, bb still new and it need time to cultivate, so dont give them heavy bio-load.

Hey Adrain Bro! I have place in 20 ottos, some Nerite snails. Do i run the same lighting procedure during this period? There's HC, so my co2 is on during the lighted 7 hrs. Also, do i need to add ferts,K,N,P etc during this crucial period or could you advise on what else to do please! I reaLLY REALLY wants this to be successful! Oh, i am doing 2 to 3 water change weekly because i think it's still alot of those brown algae. rBut the more i do, the lesser HC i left! but can see that the HC are getting healthier & running too!
Nerite snails like to dig into the soil, they will cause uproot to the HC. You can start dosing the ferts. 20 Otto? When Otto get frighten they swim like hell, everything is in the mess sometime, especially a bunch of Otto. New soil always have this kind of new tank syndrome, due to new soil and new setup and nutrients etc... leaching into the water column, at this time bacteria slowly building up. Thats why some people/pro will cycle their filter in the old tank to get the bacteria colonist first, it will shorten the cycle of a new tank. HC floating up is natural at the beginning stage. Another method is get a big bunch of those nutrients sucker plant, especially those cheap stem plant to suck out the excess ammonia etc, like Cabomba, Rotala etc etc... it really help alot.

Hmmm...so those stem plants i just leave them with its pot right, no need to plant them i presume? So SORRY, i have been reading up also but seems like it's not too much details like hands-on experienced advises!
So, i guess if i just follow these instructions then the brown algaes will disappear eventually. No need to deliberately suck them out ya?
Well, thanks again for your help bro!
Adrain Bro, i'm doing alot of readings on the E.I. but don't know where to buy those ferts? Can you help? They keep mentioning HPC, where's this? Could you please help on simple & understandable way to mix also if possible. Many thanks!
Yes just leave it in the pot will do, rinses them before putting in the tank. You can sell/give/keep after that. There alot of detail past journals on hands on if you read them.
Btw is Adrian not Adrain. Talking about EI, KNO3 already banned item in Singapore, you may have to replace with other. HPC or NPK? I've written NPK formula on my journal(The Rising Sun) thread before, below is the link, but i've also modify it to suit my different scape most time.

I'm having the same tank syndrome in my 2 footer.
Just let the HC root into the ADA substrate and mean time just keep on siphoning out the unwanted algae.
When the runners of your HC start forming, then add in the cleaning crew slowly and you should be on your way to a healthy tank bro. Or if you just cannot stand the sight just add in by battalions but you might have to face the problem of a sudden addition of bioload, just make sure your filtration system can handle this.
Oops! Sorry Adrian! Yup , i have seen your Rising Sun thread but still quite unsure where & what to buy? Normally we get to buy the Seachem or other brands but mostly i see is liquid form ah? And if i can find powder, usually only the GH buffer kind only? Please advise! Many thanx!
Hi MiminoloGY, thanx for the assurance & advised! Good luck too!
