    Re: harlequin shrimp

What's the temperature of the tank water and what's the salinity level you're maintaining it?

    Re: harlequin shrimp

Salinity a bit off but negligible and temperature are ok. How long were you able to keep them alive? What are you feeding the harlequin shrimp with, live starfish?

If this is a new tank, it's difficult to keep sand grazing fish.

    Re: harlequin shrimp

I've no experience raising baby shrimps. As for the diamond goby, stop buying them, your tank might not be able to support them.

    Re: harlequin shrimp

If your tank are still new, wait for it to mature in about 6 months time. There's nothing for the snail to consume if it's a new setup. The volume of the sand is too small to support grazing animal. It might support 1 but might not be enough.

    Re: harlequin shrimp

Not sure, never tried to speed up any process in my marine setup. How many copepod solution can you buy in a month? A bottle a day? In my personal opinion, your tank size could not support a mandarin especially since it's a new tank. You need to train the mandarin to feed on mysis shrimp. How many fishes you have in that tiny tank anyway? Do you know the requirement for the mandarin?

    Re: harlequin shrimp

Erm I thought you only need live rock to grow copepod for mandrain ... As for fishes I have 2 blue tang 2 fire shrimp 2 cleaner shrimp 4 harlequin shirmp 2 maroon clown 2 fire dart goby kinda overcrowded that's why have the change 10% water a day ... Hmmm was trying to feed the mandrain with that but it just will not eat it =.= finding a feeding tube but can't find any =[

    10% water change a day??

    You shouldn't even be keeping a single tang in a 1.5ft x 1ft tank...

    Re: harlequin shrimp

    .....faint liao..........

Your tank size can support at most 2 or 3 fish max. Want to add more fish, get a bigger tank. So much fish with so little space will change the water parameter quickly. How long can you stand changing 10 percent water daily? What if you fell sick and can't change the water, what would happen to the fish?

Yes, you need live rock to grow copepod but you also need time to let the copepod to produce. In that tiny tank with tiny live rock, the number of copepod that might grow is very, very small in number, you might be able to count with 2 hands. A tank with 100kg of live rock can only produce so much of copepod compared to yours. The copepod also need to eat too you know. They don't magically appear from the live rock.

Are the fish gasping for air in your tank without the skimmer? I would advise to get a bigger tank for the sake of the fish.

    Re: harlequin shrimp

White spots!!! Boy, are you in trouble.....seems you want a fast set up right? Well, this is going to drain your wallet. Without doing your homework, you are getting into a whole lot of problems. Neon goby may help but they are available seasonally so that's option is a no go unless you are lucky to find one. You stock up so much so fast, you will have problems after problems. You move live rock between tanks might make the problems increase rather than decrease. What's the thickness of the 3ft tank and how long was the 1.5ft tank set up? If I'm not wrong, both tank are not in the same place?
