china one which can support a 2ft tank cost around 70-80 plus i think. i bought one for mine. working fine.
Hey Guys,
my hang on filter broke down suddenly and then sprung a leak.
Currently, I have a 60x36x36 planted tank. can you please advise which is the cheap(est) canister filter that I should buy. With the exception of Ehiem, I do not mind China brands as i intend to use the filter for 2 more years max.

Think you can try atman 1200.
Good and powerful!

Jebo 835 also cheap to replace your spoilt one...
hey guys,
thanks for the suggestions...
most of the suggestions are a bit high in terms of flow rate...
i will go to the LFS to check it out.
thanks for the suggestions once again.

try ADA MC-915? saw it at C328, should be around 600L/H flow rate. got bigger version. not sure how much, as i happen to be there and saw it
i got an Eden 501 from Mr Chan instead. it was very fortunate that i did not get the CY-20, though it was cheaper. The Eden 501's flow rate was a little bit slow than expected, so I would have to supplement it with another power head. The CY-20 would have been even slower.
is Eden 501 enough for a 2ft tank? thought more for a 1ft tank. but if it is recommended by Mr Chan, then shouldn't be wrong.![]()
oh i don't mean to say that its filtration is not good enough. But if you are looking for a canister that can help you spread those "little CO2 bubbles" around, then maybe this is not the one for you, or you have to complement it with a separate power head.
in my opinion, Eden 501 looks good for a 1 feet cube.

just an update. the ADA MC-915 i mentioned is 800L/H not 600. its quite cheap also, $60 to $70 depends on where u get it from. however, it has 2 trays only. definitely much much better than Eden501(300L/H) and its slightly more expensive only. the hose inlet/outlet flow can be locked and the whole assembly removed without have water splash issue for maintenance. have a button for manual priming as well. I think dimension is 20X20X36 cm, or around there. square base.
Was collecting my tank and take a closer look again. may replace my HOF with it.
anyone ever stack canister filter on top of chiller before?
if backside itchy, maybe i go get 1 later..... since i am cycling my new tank now.

Jimmy,
i think the flow rate of filter need to be at least 5 times the water capacity of your tank. Eden501 is 300L/H, so it should serve up to max 60L tank. think a 2X1X1 feet tank should still be ok. it also depends on the bioload in the tank.
I using Eden501 for my outdoor mini pond, check my pics. but i changed 10 to 20L of water per day (use them to water my plant) so its still sufficient. the mini pond is about 55L or so, however hosting 9 goldfish which has quite high bioload

im using a china brand called jebao
It's not that i'm noob, it's that i only just found this fourm
just some updates.
my Eden 501 is doing fine. take note that the filter media that comes with the package is the best kind, as the bio-rings are a bit smooth, rather than porous.
Side note, my Eden 306 power head has given up on me. i think there is something wrong with the impeller. to be honest i am not going to give good reviews for the eden series as my current experience shows alot of impeller problems.
if i have the time, i will feedback while get a CY-20 for my 1 feet cube.
cheers out
i thought porous bio-rings are better than smooth type? like more surface area etc. or i'm wrong. hmm...
Jimmy,
my bad. i meant to say that the media that comes with the package is not the best kind as they are smooth rather than rough and porous.
