Did you happen to catch the culprit? Is it the daddy or mummy?

Just want to share with this lesson I learnt of breeding german blue ram.
This is their 3rd brood, they ate the first two brood of eggs previously. This one hatched about one week ago, I fed them brine shrimps and crushed tetra bit (if bs is in shortage).
All goes well, the fries are free swimming and guarded heavily by the parents all the time.
However, yesterday morning, I saw the daddy is on one end of the tank (60cm), the mommy is at the other end of the tank with fries. I did the usual feeding and left for work.
When I came back in the afternoon, I was shocked to find that all fries are gone. I highly suspect the daddy ate them. (tankmates: bristlenose pleco x 2, yamato shrimps x 5).
Lesson learnt: next time when the fries are about 5 days old and free swimming, I will seperate them from the parents.
Did you happen to catch the culprit? Is it the daddy or mummy?

Hi Pentagon,
It's always best to separate the fry and the parents shortly after they become free swimming and looking for their food, in case either of the parents go insane.

shrimpong, i have not seen which parent ate them, but most likely the daddy,
because he was alone, and fries are with mommy, seemingly avoiding him?
hian, yes i will separate them next time, i thought it would be more nature to
let them take charge.
thanks

hi,
may i just ask if both parents are german blue rams? i have yet to see a german blue female ram yet
thanks!

Hi Pentagon,
Most of the time you can, but there are occasional abnormalities. Or sometimes the fish will take a few spawns to figure out and you will have success with them for subsequent spawns.

Either the pair make it right to raise the fries or you make it right by separating them when fries free swimming.
I have even tried to separate them immediately after spawn as they have 5 track records of eating it on the 2nd days few years back.
The pair that is with me now manage to take care of the fries after 2 days hatching but end up eating it,4th attempt and the best so far.
Love all,Trust few,Do wrong to none

Hi,
I had the same problem of fries gone too. This is my first time keeping german ram and so lucky that they started spawning about 2 week after i bought them. Yesterday i still can see at least about 20 fries but today i manage to spot only 5 of them. I'm not sure if the parents eat them but i did saw them pick up the fries using their mouth, make some chewing then spit them out again and to my surprise the fries are still alive. Now i'm still looking around at my moss in the tank and hope some of the fries are hiding inside.
