    Re: Sae

I think they will only nibble on some BBA and hair algae (maybe). They will ditch algae for fish food as they grow and become a nuisance to other fishes. Also, SAE is known to feast on certain moss. Murphy's Law had it that they always eat the expensive ones. Others will agree with me.

You may want to try Garra Rufa, which by chance (found out by some members here) - will eat some algae. However, they can grow up to a length of 4 inches, which is quite unsightly for most planted tanks.

    Re: Sae

Colin has said everthing. Like said above yamato/amano shrimp will work too.

For algae, algae eater are to slow the algae growth or to get rid of it momentarily, they are never the cure. Its best to get rid of the cause.

Different algae prefer different conditions. The condition that algae prefer e.g. lack of co2, is usually the cause of ammonia which causes the algae to pick up growth. Find out the condition hair algae prefer (which i forgot) and solve the problem to prevent algae for the long term.

Note: Algae is always present in your tank, its just how noticable it is and its growth rate.
    Cheers,
    JJ

benjaminong88, their the correct type i believe with the black mark on their below.

barmby, they nibble on my singapore moss, frogbits root. But funny they never eat hair algae and the other plants. My girlfriend has named them the food bully for a obvious reason. i have a 3.5 inch one

    Re: Sae

haha thanks everyone i managed to clear all the hair algae in my tank. although occassionally will have some green spot algae on the tank glass.

what i added that seemed to work:

malayan + yamato + oto combination (oto useless in eating hair algae)
seachem excel dosed directly onto hair algae for my chemical warfare (algae died immediately)
weaned off iron dosage totally (i am wondering if this is the root probem) any advice or experience bros?

my co2 injection rate is already quite high.

hahah ok i am going to buy an SAE already. hope it don't makan my plants.

Less iron dose first. See how it goes? Because one don't really need alot of Fe. For this reason, they are call Trace Element (TE)
