How long can plants last

I bought some plants and havested some as well last weekend. Due to my tight schedule over the weekends, I was unable to plant everything into the tank. I tied them in a plastic bag and place them into my non-frozen unit of my fridge.

Question is, how long can they last? I might not be in Singapore these two weekends.

Consider floating them in the tank...at least they do better with lights, CO2 and fert rather than a chill. []

I was considering that too but I bought an extra packet of Blyxa Japonica and floating 50 stalks of them together with those plants I had havested would mean no lights reaching the bottom of the tank.[] [] []

What kind of plants are they.....stemmed or rosette?

If they are stemmed plants, what you can do is to get some of those weight thingy that is used to weigh down plants while they are in the pot. gently wrap it around and sink it in your tank.

If they are emersed rosette, try to get the plastic pot and some of those wooly stuff.....wrap them like you would see them in an LFS.....and sink it in a tub of water just below the crown....if submersed....do the same for stemmed plants.

I usually dump them in the fridge. The longest is two days.

Can put them in a pail and place them near the balcony where they can get some sunlight or at least reflected light. Should last a week.
My Java Fern has been in a pail at the service balcony for a few months already. Seeing that they might need some nutrients, I added a fish in lately.
BTW - if you intend to keep it longer in the pail, can suggest you provide them some light source as if in the aquarium. Use a timer.

longest 4 days and they still look healthy.. but only applies to some species. perharps not every plant can survive too long w/o lights or when they get too dried up

Friend, give chan a bit leh... I don't just take, I also give and exchange... I am always interested in new plants... Especially if they are "red" or "rare".... But very sad that my 3ft can only have this much... I tried to keep everything in, now it looks abit crowded with plants!

Now trying to seek clearance from my Platoon Commander, next tank size to be at least 4 x 2 x 1.5 (6 x 2.5 x 2 {IOS at the back}, will be nice).

well sometime i left my riccia in the tank for 1 week, and then transfer them back into the tank... it still works.
