Hi! I'm new to this and have a 6'x2'x3' tank (269 US gal) waiting to be used. What suggestions do you have for a newbie who who wants a planted tank (I love the tanks that have lots of plants and what looks like sand paths through them) with a variety of fish? I like the idea of the low tech tanks. I also like the tanks that look like they have a low 'ground cover' type of plant on the floor. I need some general suggestions so that I can start small, and then add as I learn, but I don't want to throw out all of the beginner stuff when I am ready to do more...I would like to add to it. Sorry for being so wordy - it is early in the morning! Thanks for your suggestions (for both plants and fish)...

For planted tanks, you can't start with a small corner of a huge tank and add more as you learn. You need to plant fully from the start.

If you want to start small and learn as you go, you have to start with a fully planted small tank.

I can't really elaborate at the moment. Perhaps you can tell us what you know about planted tanks, then we can start from there. It's simply too much to tell from scratch.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

    Re: Huge Tank Ideas Wanted

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I want to start with a fully planted tank of plants that are good for a beginner. Along with this, I would like suggestions for not-too-difficult fish that would go along with the plants. I'm reading up on lighting, substate, etc.,. Once, when I thought I wanted to have a marine tank, I read The New Marine Aquarium by Paletta and he had a section with lists of suggested tankmates for various sized aquariums. That served as a very useful guide. So, if anyone has any good ideas for the beginner with a ridiculously large tank, please pass them on!
