I don't usually prune them. I pull them out and replant. They seem to spread. Cheers

Yes, I pull. If white hairy roots are too long. I will snip off the roots, let the remaining hairy roots stay in substrate so as not to stir up the water column.

I will divide and replant because they grow taller if they are crowded among themselves. And slowly they will climb AGAIN ! By the way, Blyxa japonica is a stem plant originally, just that we use it to scape foreground.

This plant can be moan down to very short, they will just grow back, i always do to most of my plant unless it multiply more at the side then i will either replant or throw away.

    Yo Adrian how are you?

that time my blyxa japonica melting then like you said will just grow back and everything suddenly bloom like crazy. now its super long and i am trying to get it to spread more.

lawn mowing versus pull out & replant

which one more efficient and yield better results?

    thanks!

Hi Benjamin! I'm fine. I believe trimming stimulate plant growth, especially those old leaf restrict new growth if you leave it as it is, some people dont believe. You can try it! Like your melting plant, after melting now it grow crazily. I've try on japonica many times, some japonica bought from Barmby also.

    Re: Pruning japonica

Hope below picture answer your question. Freshly trimmed. If there's new growth beside they normally will spread around, if you want faster and wider area then replant them apart.

    Re: Pruning japonica

wa yours and barmby's japonica is crazily thick haha ok i try both methods and see how it turns out.

Sorry one more thing if any bros here can kindly advise:
How to keep rotala rotundifolia bushy and compact? My one the leaves are disgustingly huge and the whole stalk is very tall. I will nip them and replant later to see how it turns out.
