Help on my US fissidens

hi all,

i've been keeping US Fissidens in my tank for about 2-3 months...

The USF of mine doesnt seems to grow alot and don't look very green,

is there anything wrong?

What can i do to make it grow beautifully?







I'm using two tubes of the light, is it enough?

i think the light is not enough to penetrate to the bottom of the tank. and i think they are currently infested by algae. maybe add 2 more tube of light? for my us fissiden, i use 1 tube of 24watt T5HO. my tank is 30cm height and they are growing quite well

What is the temperature of the tank bro?
Anything more than 26 degrees C will slow growth. Higher than 29 degrees, can forget about growing US Fissidens

I don't think temperature play a part in the slow growth of US fissiden. I agreed with eviltrain bro that light could not reach the depth of the tank where the US fissiden is placed. Look at the wood and shrimp shelter, the fissiden is growing quite well right, Mafia00 bro?

the wood and the shrimp shelter they grow quite fast at first.. but once they reach the length... all stop growing...

mine tank is a 30cm cube.. should i change and buy a better light and replant those USF at the base?

maybe you just need to upgrade to 9watt 2 tube and your problem will be solve.

Without the injection of CO2 the US fissiden growth rate will be slow. Your fissiden on the wood and shelter looks good. Have patience, wait for another few month, the fissiden will look lush.

if worry about co2 injection, try use seachem excel. i dose a cap to my shrimp rack weekly.

dont think its a temperature problem, mine is doing well =)

6W x2 for 30cm cube i think its too little..

how did you tie the fissidens? was the mesh placed vertically initially?

I believe bbippen keeps his USF without chiller and CO2 injection. He uses excel too. As far as I know, his USF still grew well and are (exotic) algae free.
As long as you're careful about inspecting new plants and keeping the BBA and other nastier algaes out, you can always get a few algae cleaners to help clean up the "good" algaes (green dust, brown diatom & the silky thread/hair)

The other way is to raise the USF mesh closer to the surface and the light

the ceramic pipes are tied by you.. i only dose very little ferts.

i'm just thinking if i should get stronger light and change all the current USF on meshes. just afraid stronger light will result in hair algea problem.

will inject more CO2 into it, but thinking should i change the current USF i have that are tied on the meshes? because of the brown diatom and silky hair. i have an Otto inside but doesnt seem to be able to clear those things.
