T5 fitting or T8 fitting? i saw a hardware store in Eunos selling T5 tube, cost around 50-80 ( a tube )
Hi bros,
Had one of the 3 tubes on an NA bought 3ft LED light shorted because one of the LED burnt out. Now only 1/2 the tube lights up
Had been waiting for more than a month and still no news when stocks will come in (might be never!) so I'm looking at alternative replacement options.
Any advice is appreciated
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the tip bro
I'm an electrical idiot at this point...will go home and take a look plus hopefully take a clear pic!
if i'm not wrong ( from all the window shopping at NA ) their LED lights are in T8 tubes ( 3 rows ) what i saw at the hardware store is single row T5 tubes. tempted to buy and try but it cost around 50 for a 2 feet T5 tube.

Now that I think about it...I'm sure they are T8s as I'm now running a T5 to cover for the dead tube and the T5s are much smaller in diameter. So you are right...and I'm back to square one, haha
A replacement from NA would cost more than 50 bro, and that IF any stock comes in
I'm going to see if I can just change out the dead LED...you know if any shops offer such services? Not very sure of my soldering skills at the moment, haha
erm, you can always diy if the housing for the LED tube is able to open. hee hee

Hi,
I think one of the shops in Sim Lim Tower does sells the LED lights in T8 tubes. Its on the 3rd floor to the right after coming up from the stairs. Price wise, not too sure.
Half of the LEDs cannot light up? I think it maybe due to electronic circuit inside rather than the LEDs itself. So, changing the LEDs may not help. As the the Sim Liim Tower selling the T8 LEDs. I think should not be cheap. Last time about one year ago, I asked and the price was about $90 if I remember correctly.

Hi AnA,
Yea, I cracked opened the tube and found that the long PCB the LEDs were sitting on had a few charred spots on the drawn circuits aside from the very obviously fried LED. It nigh impossible to pull the array out of the plastic tube casing though, as its hot glued in many spots. I'm surprised that they actually had a specially shaped LED driver squeezed under the PCB made to fit the shape of the tube, haha
I may get around to destroying the entire thing just to see if there's anything reusable but for now, it's a waste of time to try to repair.
Would've waited for NA to get new stocks but I noticed that the center tube (thats fried) is different from the 2 other tubes and is on a separate switch. On closer inspections, I found that 1/2 the LEDs on this tube is larger and probably higher powered. No wonder I seemed to have lost more than 1/3 lighting power when the center tube died!
NA claims that this kinda tubes are from an early batch that will no longer be coming in, new ones will be the same as my 2 remaining tubes...and from the looks of them, I'm not too thrilled, especially when replacement will cost about $60.
So I went online and actually found alot of web stores selling LED tubes but very few T8s and even less 3ft ones. They are also rather costly and minimal order is 2 to sometimes even 100 pcs. Many webstores tubes have rather poor lumens and dubious spec claims too.
Finally found a China/HK based chap selling it at a price close to $60SGD (with shipping) and the specs seemed right (temp 6500K, decent lumen output thats believable). This one runs on SMD LEDs (flat yellow squares) instead of the usual protuding glass bulbs so the LED density seemed better. Best thing is I can just order one pc and shipping is not a killer.
Now waiting for it to arrive. Hope its not a scam shop! LOL!

which website did u buy from?
Put bluntly, Did NA just do a "Bait and switch" on you?
Its one of the sellers on Alibaba...China's version of Ebay. Still quite worried although I actually spoke to the guy and he had pretty good feedbacks from ang mo buyers in the past. At least I now know that one can easily get replacement tubes online if the local shops don't have it.
I wouldn't go make such accusations since they probably got switched by the supplier of the tubes too. And I did get the original tubes in the beginning, its just that the replacements are not available now after a year. Anyhow, warranty is over so I can't really expect them to have replacements on standby just to service me. Still, the darn tubes were meant to last alot longer than 1 year 2 months and thanks to this, my iwagumi project had to be partially replanted as the HC melted although I bought a T5 to try and replace the lost lumens.
I'm sad to report that our china site did a "bait and switch" on me. When I questioned, he claims that the suppliers don't make that kinda tube anymore and sent me a replacement that he "thinks look bright".
11W vs 15W. 156 LEDs vs 216 LEDs. Single row LED vs double row LED. 货不对板~!!!!
Its definitely not as bright as the tube I used to have. I wouldn't mind if the 15W also fails to match it, but if I had paid for a 15W, and its out of stock, a seller cannot just replace with a lower quality item!
I'm going to try and block payment to this bugger
I think you definitely should!!!! what kind of business ethics is that!
Yea! After a few rounds of exchanges, he tried to get me to communicate by email (instead of through the shopping portal) and wanna send me quotes for the other T8 tubes he have in his shop!
I asked if he was trying to ask me to buy another tube from him and he said "yes"!
And he still didn't take down the sales of the "never was made by the supplier" tube that I ordered...means he's still selling them!
Lodged a formal refund request and frozen the payment.
Argh!!! Just saw this!

If only they advertised earlier!!
The seller refused to refund me through the web portal but instead wanna communicate and refund me an undisclosed sum through paypal...should I let him? I wonder what tricks he can pull off if I send him my paypal account. Maybe refund me peanuts then use that to void my refund request on the official web portal claiming that we've resolved offline?

No reason why the refund should be undisclosed, especially since it stems from the fact that merchant is unable to provide what you ordered.

Agreed. Told him I wanna settle it through the trading portal and he finally offered $20USD but too late, the dispute mitigation time has lapsed and a claim had been filed with the site admin to investigate and I hope they award a full refund. Its not alot of money, but this guy deserve to be taught a lesson
