The wattage of internal filters are very low. Mine is like 8W. I doubt it will add any significant heat to the tank.

Unless you are dead sure that it will be riccia-only for as long as you are still in this hobby then go without base fert. Most of us move away or, at least, reduce the usage greatly after a while 'cos it's just too troublesome.

    temperature should be about 28-29deg.
it depends whether the tank gets any direct sunlight or heat from wall.
if you cover you tank, temperature can go up to around 31deg.

Errmm... Theo, to be clear, move away from riccia or base fert? I'm guessing you meant riccia, but the sentence implies basefert.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

My tanks go up to 30+ celcius without fans. The internal filters did not account for any noticable increase. The heat is from the lights, and unventilated room.

A tank near a well ventilated area can stay around 28/29 celcius without fans.

i have a tank next to a window so there is some breeze.
temperature is about 28-29deg, i do not switch on the lights and has an internal filter.
if i cover this tank, the temperature will increase to about 31deg.

doesn't matter whether internal or external filter are used, they do add heat into your tank water. as long as there is ventilation, the temperature increase will be minimal.

Haahaa, ok ... I meant riccia lah ... Can't really move away from the base fert once the tank is up and running right?

Well, moving away from base fert to me means starting new tanks without base fert.

Mmm ... Actually, I did skip base fert for my 1.5ft cory tank ... Low light (1.5W/gal) with DIY CO2 and the E. tenellus is still growing like wild fire

Then again, I regard this 1.5ft tank as a 'fishtank with plants', not a 'planted tank'.
