cheapest setup is probably just a bucket and some water, but no guarantees that your CRS will survive.
Get a 2ft tank, 8kg gex soil, hang on filter, fans and about 10pcs C grade crs.

I know RCS can survive that, do not think CRS will.

If you wants to do the small tank, you need lower grade Crs,ada soil, add bb to kick start, should be able to survive in office environment. Cross your finger.

yesh. but, there's no problem getting SSS grade in a attap house too. the question is, will a water parameter sensitive shrimp survive in such a harsh environment (no proper filtration) ?

1 pair of grade A CRS
the result is over 100 of CRS which i sold off after decom the set.

2nd hand 2ft tank - $8 - $10
2nd hand dolphin,atman,/ehiem cannister filter -$20 to $100
medias (ceraminc rings only) - $5 - $10
2nd hand 2ft light 18w - $7 - $10
9l bag of soil (aqua concept soil/ada/gex) - $28+
2nd hand chiller ( resun/ haile/teco) - $120 +
you can get all this in the market place
Mine not the cheapest but have already given two batch of baby shrimps :
$9 small fish tank bought from C328
$6 small pack of gex soil
$8 mini hang filter
$8 drift wood with taiwan moss
I keep 3 crown CRS in this small little tank in my office . My office aircond is on from 8 am till 6pm from mon to sat .
