Hi any can advise how do we place or attach the surface skimmer to the side of the tank with Euro brace as I can,t attach without been block by the brace is I use the suction holder.

Now I let it "flote" with the pipe attach to it, any comments on this?

have you considered removing the surface skimmer all together. use mollies or platies to remove the surface protein film.

Bro thanks for the suggestion will consider that since it will also give me more option to introduce other kinds of fish into the tank.

The skimmer needs to be 90 deg level with the water to work. Your set up would not work.

    Re: Surface Skimmer

    Hi ,

My comment if you want to install such skimmer is you have to attach tightly to the glass thus the position is always stable so the upper part of skimmer will move slowly to the match water-level follow with the pressure incoming water to filter inlet

Another option, which I think is better and less problem is installing the custom "hanging skimmer" inlet made from fiberglass which (I forgot the website) that available in Singapore.
It consist 2 chambers, the first chamber is function as the normal skimmer then the water moved to 2nd chambers which function to maintain full water level in that box and the bottom part of this 2nd chamber will have an outlet to connect with the filter (such Eheim)

    Hope help

    Re: Surface Skimmer

I am wondering if anyone thought of cutting the black part which is used for controlling the suction level shorter. does not affect performance and should be able to align it to correct angle for the skimmer to work.

PS: its the normal type of skimmer, NEVER do this to expensive ones.
Note: i know someone who cut his + i love his pvc pipes work for his new cabinet.

It's little bit risky I think, when the suction pressure from filter got a problem then the suction level will moving up and down densely and quite possible jump from the holding base.
Or if wanna try, make sure not to cut lower than the top level of suction level

My friend did have sufficient allowance to at leas adjust the level of suction.
Personally, i seldom turn that on mine even when i didn't cut it.

good that you point that out. misunderstanding what i mean may and can occur

    Re: Surface Skimmer

    Folks,

So lucky that I still keep the picture that I mentioned in previous posting.
Anybody can advise , where I can get this overflow skimmer ?
It's very simple and efficient , as we just need to connect the 2nd (back) chamber direct with the filter inlet.

Try to browse , but no luck to find latest information on this picture.
    Appreciate any sharing ....

    Re: Surface Skimmer

    Here's an option.

Get a large aquarium magnet cleaner. Silicone the surface skimmer to the magnet cleaner that is meant to be in the tank. The thicker cleaner magnet would add thickness so that the surface skimmer is past the euro bracing of the tank.

    Hope this helps!

That's an overflow box, not an overflow skimmer. It does have the comb attached to it though. You can find this box at Aquamarin. They have their own overflow box as well as the Reef Octopus brand overflow box.

This over flow box is good in large tank. It would take a lot of space on smaller tanks. Get a surface skimmer or upgrade to a bigger tank and buy this overflow box. LOL!
