well yes it will work.. but that will be assuming that you have a regulator.

I think you mean a CO2 tank + diffuser without using a regulator(many refer this as solenoid).

I have a friend using this setup and yes, it is possible.

He uses the main valve for adjusting the CO2 flow rate.

Please don't use a 'manual regulator', it is not what it is....a 'manual regulator' is just a throttle/onoff valve...no different from the main valve.

Get a proper regulator (that come with a solenoid) if you intend to spend $.

regulator and solenoid are 2 separate items.
since most are getting co2 sets from lfs, it is natural for the c02 system to have regulator, needle valve and solenoid packaged together.

a proper regulator is also known as pressure reducer. it reduces tank pressure of 900++ psi to less than 40 psi. most likely there will be 2 gauges attached, one will show tank pressure while the other will show working pressure.

needle valve is a flow control valve. you adjust this to get the bps that you want.

solenoid valve is an electrically controlled valve to 'switch' on/off your co2.

    More regulator info for you...
    Refer to pix

Did you see mickey mouse, that is the regulator (it regulate pressure at 30-40psi, thats why it is call regulator)

Bubble counter, this is only one example of bubble counter, not neccessary to use this type.

Cheapest CO2 system???, depends what you want...some people want cheap but say taiwan system is no good enough!

You know what I mean? some people just want cheap, good and big??? where to find.

Taiwan Regulator (with solenoid) - $85
    Taiwan JBJ Regulator - $120
    CO2 tank 2litre - around $80
    3.5litre - around $95
    5litre - around $120

    Try NA....

Please refer to price above, get the JBJ regulator. Price is only aga-aga (but was from NA), should be very close.

I'm not sure about reliability...only own one for 3months, heard alot, but that is the fair risk for low price...some more with spare parts (solenoid is the one which is likely to fail, NA selling replacement solenoid at $25) to replace (only for JBJ).

Got Money to try German??? Imagine, Regulator=$185 ,Solenoid=$85, total = $270 (vs $120 taiwan?)
    Why complain?

Got cheaper taiwan one, $85 (I personally don't dare to try, no spare parts)

Sorry, I refuse to answer your last question because I had made a lousy comment earlier. You will get me into trouble.

    Rgds.
