Hi bros, i hv a small tank 25cmx30cmx25 about 19L that i used to adopt my rainbow crab and i fill the tank with half of water including small stones and woods. Recently i hv the idea of upgrading my HOB filter to canister filter and Shiruba 303 or Eheim Classic 2211 will be my choice. Is the filters is overkill for my tank?

Because my current filter unable to suck feces produced by my crab and the water get smelly easily because i feed the crab with prawn meat. I assume that i need a filter with filter media? Or upgrade to a bigger HOB filter will be better choice?

    Advices greatly appreciated, thanks.

As many would have said, it is absolutely with over filtration. Given the choice you have, those canisters are fine and not an overkill. As you are feeding prawn meat, and crabs do tend to produce waste, you will have to have a little flow in the water to allow waste to be sucked into the filter. I would suggest that you add carbon filtration to reduce the smell of the water. Do note that you will still need to change water regularly as filtration can only help to a certain extend.

Thanks xaine for your advice, it seem to be a green light for getting a canister filter for my tank.
