How come sometimes got alot of bubbles inside the surface skimmer chamber? How to resolve it? Is it alright not to do anything if the bubbles fill up?

i'm curious. how is it less feeding reduce air bubbles?
i using tom's surface skimmer. don't know if it's the same.

i am always afraid the bubbles get drawn into the cannister filter and might damage the motor shaft.
i used a toothpick and attach it to a silicon tube holder,(suction cap?). then i stick it to side of tank and above the skimmer input. i adjust such that the height of the water level mark is much above the level the water is flowing into the skimmer, to prevent any bubbles getting suck into it. the toothpick should just fit into the slits at the head of the skimmmer input, and the water level mark should be in-between the slits.
hope you are using the same surface skimmer and the above to solve the bubbles.
