Hi Choy,
Like your tank and the hairgrass, can spare me a piece of your estate (hairgrass plot) to start?

sorry, cannot pull out the HG, either the substrate comes up with it (the roots are 2 inches thick, macam carpet grass) or the leaves all break off.

Choy, is your hairgrass consider dwarf type or what? Or is there any difference? I'm trying to figure out about mine. Just like yours, it's grown quite tall, and roots get quite deep into substrate.----------------

Is there any problem if your HG spread too thick? How you maintain it?
I assume "dwarf" as in it does not produce plantlet from the tip of the leaves. Grow tall good right? healthy mah![]()
OK, for trimming, I have decided that part trim is not the way, because you leave behind all the stumps which will yellow and grow algae, and also still contribute to the congestion at the bottom. So I give crew cut, cut all the way down to the gravel, macam lawn mower, just leave the crown and runners (which should be in the gravel anyway). after crew cut you will see a parched yellow (since the bottom got no light) tundra grassland, grass should be only 1-2mm off the gravel. dare dare trim, don'ch scare![]()
mine grow back more than an inch in a week![]()

So does anyone knows where to get Hairgrass-Dwarf type.
I been to many LFS selling small pots of grass, but can't really identify them, moreover the "grass" they sell looks more like HAY! Is that normal?[]
Mike
read THIS very thread from the beginning, everything you ever wanted to know about hairgrass but were afraid to ask----------------
