Get a test kit and check water quality. How often is your water change?

Previously when it happened to me i just add another air pump and it solve the problem. Hope your fishes will be ok..
Boyu mt 30 is a one feet tank? 20 fishes is too heavy bioload for a one feet tank and maybe borderline max bioload for a 2 ft tank, depending on species. For immediate interim action before you get the air pump and air stone, try to empty out some water until the water line is below the water outlet so that the return water helps to aerate the water. From what you stated, the fishes were okay until you added 10 more tetras. That's ten more bioload, which is more than the tank can handle. Too crowded for comfort. When you change the water, it has some dissolved oxygen but it is soon used up by your 20 fishes so after 1 hour they start gasping for air again. I think if you reduce the number of fishes to 10 or below small fishes, the situation should come under control.
Bro benjidog.....sorry for my mistake....my tank is Mt-402...confirm 2 feet tank. I have took out most of the fishes....left about 6 in tank....but still grasping for air when i return home.
After adding in the air pump......the water get much clearer and they stop surfacing. How long shld i use the pump? attach my humble tank....

Is the water slightly greenish? What is the lighting timing? Plants doing well? Any visible algae?
Bro....not really greenish...maybe is the IPHONE camera sucks!
Lighting is from 8PM to 1AM only....plant is growing....except the carpet grass....cannot make it all the time...turn brownish after sometimes....
Keep the pump on for one week. Do another 10-20% water change 2 -3 three times this week.
After that, try without the pump. If fish stillgasp, please re-instate the pump. Keep up the good work and all teh best for your Tank!!! Enjoy but do not be enslaved by the tank.
Thanks Bro.....hope they can start breathing normally.......cheers!
cichlidevils, i had the same problem after my massive water change (to faciliate a rescape) the day before and yesterday 6-7 cardinals were hanging around the surface as well. what i did was i had my water outlet raised above the water level to have some aeration like what benjidog suggested for abt 8hours this morning & when i came back they were all fine. hope yours is recovering.
I would suggest that its a Chlorine problem. Did you add anti-chlorine for the 50% new water??
Thanks guys.....all my fishes is doing well now....confirm that i have put in to much anti chlorine....!!
after pumping air in for 3 days....all seems to recover now.....ADDED more fishes too....
cheers
