This is my second attempt at freshwater low tech after about 2 years of hiatus, after tearing my old tank down (as shown below), I embarked on a new chapter!

Firstly the soil, I used Marfield Contro soil, which still breaks down into mulmy soil after some time, as for water quality, I have happy shrimps now, so I guess it doesnt matter much. Price wise almost ADA standard, so I guess ADA II would still be the way for me in the future.

Addition of wood and flora, supposed to achieve the feel of tree roots branching into the river, something like those scenes on Discovery Channel.... took awhile for me to find this particular wood haha...

Addition of water, since the water was hosed on the wood, the flow was broken and as it can be seen, crystal clear water, no clouding whatsoever.

Everything in except the live stock. The plan for this tank was Amber Tetras, Otos and Cherry shrimps, which came in phases over the 2 months.

Fearing not enough places for my shrimps to hide and rest, I added Subwassertang to the right side.

4 months later from date of commissioning, shrimps have started breeding! Hope this tank matures beautifully.

I like the last picture the best.

That shot is the starting inspiration for my new project.
I just completed a 1ft nano shrimp tank and planning another 1ft nano tank for the office.
The tankscape will be mostly moss, some rocks and Subwassertang and FR shrimps.

benjidog: It's a great compliment for my project to give ideas! Sounds like fun to have shrimp tanks! If I could afford more space I would dedicate one tank to shrimps but unfortunately I can only have one, so it's community for me.

    ndy06: thanks!

broken arrow: yeps, spent like 40 mins at c328 thinking about how to adjust and use this ginseng to its fullest haha, people must have thought I was crazy...

Wingless: Yos! When you wanna go gai gai see fish again? Serangoon also got place haha never bring you yet.

taikiat: i anytime also can! just text me in advance or message me

anyway i thinking of making one simple tank, consist of
Hemianthus callitrichoides (HC) and different type of moss (on ground and tie around driftwood). for the Hemianthus callitrichoides, does it require soil? if don't need then i just buy the lapis sand can le. or any suggestion?

Shrimps are now breeding like rabbits, even the bumblebee gobies have trouble finding the shrimplets for food amongst the lush java moss and subwassertang. Added some seaweed looking plant at the right and left background, and hopefully the HC doesnt melt on me although I think its close to impossible in my low tech tank. First trimming of java moss today! thats how slow plants grow in my tank =D

It is good to see that your "tree" is growing green with moss or green algae - shows that parameters are ok and things are growing. Inspiring!
