Are potassium permanganate-based solution available in LFS? Heard is quite dangerous as if wrong dosage to tank will wipe out everything in tank..

never dose it directly into your tank! PP is meant for bathing the plants and other things you plan to put into the tank. You can then soak the treated plants/rocks/woods in dechlorinated water as the dechlorinating solution also neutralizes PP, before putting the things into the tank.
PP can be bought at big pharmacies in crystal form (don't buy the diluted liquid form)
I dilute the crystal in water till its a nice light purple and then soak plants for 15 mins max. Other nonliving items can be soaked slightly longer but may discolor

Thanks for the valuable information on the usage and dosage of PP!

When PP is used up[oxidised] it will turn brown-good for knowing when it's time to WC-can be removed with active carbon.

PP's great for making things look old for film sets. So be careful with it around your new clothes or 'toys' especially susceptible metal like silver, copper etc.
PP crystals+some sweat/water comes direct contact with skin and will stain for umpteen days.
You can tell who's been 'playing' with PP.

Light purple dilutions will not stain aquarium stuff-plastics/glass or skin[washable as we shed].

Just to add-Helena's[assasin snails] work great-they're higher on the food chain so they produce less.
They manage to keep MTS[malaya trumpet snails] populations from exploding in my tank and also to keep them underground. MTS has the operculum and IMO the hardest snail to rid off in any infested tank.
