    anyone encounter such thing? don't know why there is a layer of oil like on the surface of water.

    bro, its quite common. just some protein on the surface. people use skimmer to remove it. or you can use a rainbar to create motion on the water surface which will dissolve the protein.

    You can movenewspaper/kitchen towel over the surface of the water to remove the protein layer. Otherwise, just leave it alone. It won't harm your lifestock and ramshorn / nerite snails seem to love it.

    This layer of stuff is known as bio-film, it will occur if you leave a pail of water for few days without disturbing the surface.
