Yah! I have the same problem also, i just started to plant it last week and now all growing straight up......is there a way to make it run like a runner instead of straight up?[]

This type of plant requires very high lighting.
Better has at least 3watt per gal if not more.
If not, this plant will grow taller to get the little light you gave with their stem growing weaker and more fragile each day.
glosso should be planted like the way I described the hairgrass. sometimes planting and the particular plant itself has an effect.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Here's my experience with glosso ... hope it helps![]()
Sometime back I got a HUGE bag from a forumer (tink it is kingpin) here. He did a trimming which he cut off the top portion of the glosso. His advise is to use only the top 4 leaves and plunge the plant straight into the gravel with only the top 2 leaves showing and the bottom 2 leaves as anchors. I followed his advise and waited. After 1, 2 months, the glosso keep growing up even though I had 72W for a 2ft tank.
So by reading up more, I read that by constantly trimming the glosso will help. So I began trimming glosso once or twice every week. After another month or so, no change. The glosso kept growing up. The leaves are fine, meaning the nutrients are adaquate.
So after 3, 4 months of trying, I give up and gave them to another forumer. I used a scissors and trimmed off the glosso right from the bottom of the stem near the gravel. I then pulled out all the stems sticking out from the gravel.
After 2 weeks or so, I saw 2, 3 stems glosso sprouting out. Probably from a few stems that escaped my eyes. I left them since its a small bunch afterall. I noticed the leaves this time is really small. So after a few weeks, they starting crawling along the gravel!!! They did not grow upwards now!!! One runner with single layer of pretty leaves!!! Now they're slowing crawling over since only 3 stems are growing.
Hope this helps [:] [:

So the suggestion is to cut them close to the substrate?
I think the substrate also have some impacts. Glosso often grows better with ADA aquasoil, I think.
I used aquasoil and have MH lights but my glosso initially refused to grow short after 2-3 trimming. So I gave up and replaced with HC and same thingthen I pull out everything and after a few weeks, glosso and HC came back and started creeping slowly! Funny right?
I just started my first ever tank and grew Glosso as a foreground plant. I am currently using black quartz gravel and base ferts. My glosso did not grow well initially but after some time and weekly trimming, it began to carpet and now im having a hard time keep them in shape. What I did during planting was to separate it node by node and planted it straight into the base only exposing the leaf on the surface. This can be quite back breaking but worth the hard work.
I felt that once the glosso starts to multiply(growing well but slowly), pruning it perhaps weekly helps it grow faster. After 3 weeks from initial planting, I pruned the top for about 3 consecutively weeks and have noted the runners multiplying and growing sideways. Well this is just my thoughts and I may be wrong since I am very new in this hobby.
Specs for my tank as follows:
4' x1.5' x1.5'
Inline co2 atomizer @ approx 5bps
Eheim 2028 and Hailea 300A chiller
Black quartz gravel and JBJ Aqua Basic Plus fert
54W x 4 T5HO Giesemann
5ml Brighty K / 2ml BW Growth daily
This is the glosso that i grow.
Attachment 22122
If it is what you want it to look like, my specs are
Tank standard 4feet tank (4x1.5x1.5) feet
aquazonic 4 tube T5 lamp ( 200+watts?)
CO2 at a bubble/2-3 sec
ADA(II) + laterite / using ADA(I) + JBL works also / magic soil + laterite also works tried with all however ADA(II) gave me a more yellowish instead of greenish look
Using weipro filter for 4 feet (not sure the flowrate) but i use the CO2 mixer with the plastic balls in a cylinder as output then muffle the output with rough sponge to make my tank almost no flow( the bubbles from plant will not sway, float up almost straight line)
Lighting 8-9 hours
trimming wise, i cut until the plant left 2-3 segments of leaves if i get long ones. about 70% of all i have. then wait till they have runners already then i cut all until left the base 2 leaves.
I dose EIHO potssium, plant complete and iron only
My glosso lawn![]()
How to make it creep and compact? honestly, not a clue, it just did.
IMO, Glosso is a bit weird, on 2x1x1.2ft tank, I can make it creep with 55W PL. However when I try again (same tank, same setup but another scape) with 2x36W it does not creep. I have no time to find out why and guessing will only confuse futher.
My setup:
Tank size 3x1.5x1.5ft
4x39W T5HO, 8 hours a day
ADA Amazonia
CO2 at 6bps
Fertilizer regime: EI
Temperature at 26-27
