It's probably the heat or not enough lighting or combination of both.
I am trying out the dry start method of planting but seems like already run into some problems on the 2nd day. I planted some hairgrass after trimming off the top of the grass. Added just enough water to keep the substrates wet. Covered the tank with the light set to remain on for 10hrs. Occassionally opened cover and sprayed water to keep substrate wet. But today after i came back from work looks like many of the grass have turned yellow. One more thing that i forgot to mention was that after planting, the grass remained in clumps because they were wet. Was i suppose to open them up so that individual strands could be visible?. I dont know if this is the cause or is there any other factor that is causing the rot. Could certainly use some advise. Btw i am using a 1.5 ft tank and a single tube T5 24 watts lamp. From my understanding is that the green pigment in plants is called Chlorophyll which is held together by Chlomatoplast which will breakdown when under extra strong lighting conditions.

Yes that's true but in this case I don't think 24W [1.5ft tank] of lighting can cause that. Not powerful enough IMO.
Yellowing can be caused by poor iron absorption or breakdown of it[chlorophyll].

Yes, Yellowing can also be caused by poor iron absorption usually due to high PH
The correct way of trimming the hairgrass is cut the top or root? shld be cutting the root a bit before plant is it? cos i saw before some show got farmer cut away part of the root in order to make the plant to spread more runners. any advise?
