    Hi All,

Previously infected with Ich and treated with seachem paraguard.

Recently noticed something else on the discus that looked similiar to ich but no idea on the white patches. Anyone able to ID the disease? just started on day 1 of Waterlife's Protozin, not sure if i am on the right track..

    Thanks a million

Its slime, just use Potassium permaganate (PP) to treat. Will go off about 7 days.

You will have to transfer them to a treatment tank as PP is purple in colour and it may stain your plants.

Have you added any new fishes recently??

Slime- treatment tank. PP works really well if you can get it. Or else aquarium salt- 1.5-3ppt 150-300gram/100 liter. [Discus can take it but not tetras-]

    thanks alot bros!

dont have a spare treatment tank most of them have it. using waterlife's Protozin for 2 days now, looks a little better. Left with 3rd day and 6th day course!\
Waterlife protozin contains malachite green, formeldahyde and copper, should be effective?

But like what you bros said, 7 days even for PP. now is only 2nd day i should be a little more patient =/

water temp is 30 degrees, do i need to go higher?

Yes..the whitespot and slime all started when i gotten some ottos from a LFS in west side..

Effective, google what Malachite Green and Formaldehyde side effects are to humans. You wont like it. MG is harmful to plants. Similar to MB[methylene blue] a dye.

PP can take care of slime instantly- the fish will shed the white slime and it turn brownish and 'peel off'. You then have to promote the fish natural slime coat by adding 1ppt salt or risk other secondary infection. Doesn't take a week but keep observing. This is precursor to the classic discus plague when the fish are weak they will get attacked by opportunistic pathogens. The four- virus, bacteria, protozoa and fungi.

Can PP be used for similar treatment to other types of fishes or only discus ?

Can work for anything but to be on the safe side, use a light dose. What it basically does is oxidises substances, organic or inorganic, including your fish's gills/skin etc. The bacteria normally stick onto the slime of fish, making them uncomfortable. PP will remove that coat of slime, and then your fish can produce a new coat.
