I think for Aponogeton species, it's not advisable to bury the bulb (the brown thing at the base of the plant) fully. I usually leave 1/4 of the bulb exposed.

Juz to share with you some of my observation, when I planted my Vallisneria Thaium, which is a "bulb" type plant, the people from Teo's advise me to plant the bulb 1/2 way submerged into the gravel. I did so and as the plant acclimatizes after time, the bulb sort of rotted away until the growing tip(tip where new leaves emerges) become level with the gravel.
So what I'm tryin to say is: in my case, the plant bulb "reposition it's bulb automatically into the substrate" when it get used to it's environment.
Hope it helps!
Cheers!

Thank, so she was right other all.
