There have been quite a few discussion on this. Nonetheless the UV thingy should be connected to the outlet of your filter to avoid having the UV bulb coated with the slimmy stuff commonly found in the filter.
hey guys, just check, UV filter supposed to connect to the outlet of the canister right? and there's no difference in the inlet and the outlet of the UV filter?

I've seen those UV filter in LFS, but what is the main purpose of installing them? Is it useful?
